Title: "Bliss"
Album: Origin of Symmetry (#2)
Length: 4:12
Writer: Matthew Bellamy
Alternate Title(s): (none)
This song begins with probably the best sounding, most feeling-drenched synth line I have ever experienced. Reminding Bellamy of "some music I heard on some children’s music programme when [he] was five", this melody line of broken chords plays twice through the full chord arpeggio, before the main riff begins.
The main riff itself? It would be disappointingly light in most other songs, but in this song it fits absolutely perfectly. And the bassline behind it is also pure genius, and also plays through the lyrics, which in themselves could be a frickin' masterpiece!
The chorus is slower, and features Matt crying out all the way into falsetto. "Give me the peace and joy in your mind"... makes you wanna do it somehow.
The song is then pretty much repeated, and ends with a repeat of the synth arpeggios building up into the final chorus, which then fades into a beautiful, beautiful ending. Fackin' extraordinary. It's out of this world.
Overall Rating: 10/10
Highlights: The absolutely stunning synth line holding the song together, and the well-placed main riff.
