From Up On Poppy Hill/Kokuriko-zaka Kara - 10/10
In case you guys don't know it is newest Studio Ghibli movie, released last year in Japan. I don't think there is any western releases yet. Luckily just released Japanese DVD has English subtitles.
It is rare nowadays to find a movie with completely hand drawn animation, especially one with this quality. Scenery in this movie was especially beautiful.
I truly liked the story of the movie. It had slightly similar feeling to Ocean Waves and Whispers Of The Heart.
The movie was set in 1960's Japan and it had really nostalgic feeling. It is a shame that as a non-Japanese person, I wasn't able to experience it same way as an older Japanese person would have.
From Up On Poppy Hill was truly a masterpiece in my opinion. It really made me look forward to Goro Miyazaki's future works. His first movie wasn't that amazing, but this totally raised the bar up to the top.

Whispers of the Heart is an incredible film. A bit tragic the director passed away. I'm sure he would have created more amazing films.

Primer. One of the best time travel based films I've seen. Will have to watch it again to get the full gist of things. Somewhat confusing, but awesome.
I was looking for ideas for something to watch last week, so came into this thread and this one jumped out at me, mainly because I'm a massive geek.
I was following it up until the coma dude. Then my head exploded. The science behind it was pretty believable and I liked how it wasn't dumbed down at all. It just got a little too confusing with that failsafe box and boxes in boxes

War Horse. Not too bad. A bit too sentimental for my taste though.

Ted and Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Both hilarious, Ted in a normal vulgar way and Abe in its weird own way.
Only next logical step for Hollywood is Richard Nixon Communist Werewolf Slayer.

I Am Legend - 6/10.
I love Will Smith, I think he's a fantastic actor who can pretty much do anything. I thought he did a great performance in this, but the story was wayyyyyyyyyyy too far away from the book. The book had such a great ending that I really loved, and the movie completely changed it - and almost the entire plot for that matter. I guess it would've been a bit better if I didn't know the book's story.
Seven Pounds - 8/10
Another Will Smith movie, another awesome performance by him and the rest of the cast, I really enjoyed it. I thought the plot was a bit weird and questionable as to whether it's a happy or depressing movie, but I liked it.

Amazing Spider-Man
7/10
I don't know, I absolutely loved Emma Stone (.. obviously) and Andrew Garfield, and that aspect was great, as were the action scenes. But the whole darker vibe going on didn't work for me. The movie shined when there were jokes... and where there was Emma Stone.

Amazing Spider-Man - 5/10
Very disappointed by this. It felt awkward. It was trying to be serious at points but then all the character interactions were just silly and goofy. Stone and Garfield always seemed to be giggling way too much. I understand that Peter Parker was an awkward character, but I think he was too social in this one, didn't seem like the nerdy photographer that I thought Peter Parker was supposed to be. Also, a lot of things seemed forced and didn't really flow all that well - didn't make much sense. The climax of the movie sucked and was way too rushed for my liking. The action scenes were well done, but other than that it was pretty disappointing.
What really killed it for me was the fact that the movie starts out trying to be dark, and then goes all awkward and giggly and then tries to be dark again, just an awkward movie for me. It also felt like Spider-Man never hid his identity, which is something that really worked in the Tobey Maguire films (which were all much better, minus the third one).

I agree this this in some ways. My rating is either a 7 or an 8. I feel like they got more screen time of Peter before he became Spider-Man, he seemed to have more motivation to become Spider-Man this time around and I feel like the chemistry between Peter and Gwen was better than the one between Peter and MJ in the other three. Then there were the fight scenes, the visual style of the film and so on which were all really well done.
But, my problems were that there were some plot aspects that were abandoned shortly after being created, like the hunt for Peter's killer. I also feel it could have been about 10 minutes longer. Norman Osborn was only hinted at slightly, to the extent where he didn't feel like a threat and just felt useless even being mentioned at all. That's all I'll say here though, I'll go into more detail in the thread for the film itself.

I actually didn't like the chemistry between Peter and Gwen in this one. It was fine, but it all seemed so giddy and awkward to me. I liked the struggles Peter faced in the other spider-man films, he didn't want to reveal himself but he tried to balance his real life (school, relationship, aunt, job, etc.). In this film, it didn't seem like he was struggling to do anything, everything just fell into place so perfectly for him - no struggles with being a superhero.
I agree with the point about it being ten minutes longer, maybe they could've expanded on some things. It was like they were just creating different plot elements to get to the next point in the film, then abandoning it after the next point is reached.
I should've really posted this in the film's thread, but oh well.
