The Godfather.

I've had this (along with the other two films and a bonus disc) on DVD for blooming ages and I've never seen it/them. But thanks to a combination of unemployment and boredom, I sat down yesterday for a late night showing and I was immensely impressed.

I mean, on the whole, it was damn near perfect. I mean, I was half expecting to be disappointed after being told for years how it’s "the greatest film of all time" or something along those lines. I honestly didn’t think it could stand up to the hype but sure enough, it did.

My biggest regret is that I never watched it sooner. So, to make up for it, I’m watching Part II tonight and then Part III tomorrow. Although I've been told multiple times that Part III is a letdown/total and utter tripe, I'm looking forward to Part II, which is supposed to be at the very least on par or slightly better than the first film.

Its a fascinating voyage of pain and despair that leaves you emotionally drained and satisfied, like fucking a burning dolphin.

The Godfather is arguably the best film ever made. II is also awesome. III is alright, Andy Garcia is amazing in it.

Except for Sophia Coppola, (she was really annoying and distracting) I thought III was pretty great. It gives you a nice ending to the trilogy.

It was film day for me.

Death Proof: Not Tarantinos best. 7/10
Surrogates: Fails in every possible way. 5/10
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: It was fun. Better than X-3 though. 8/10

Cars. It was on TV and I was incredibly bored, it didn't alleviate the boredom as much as I wanted it to.

Gomorrah

I had high hopes (as the Blu-Ray covers suggests, it's the best gangster film since City of God which is one of my favourite films) but it felt some long and tedious. The five plots felt really light and pointless and none of the characters could grow on me due to the amount of time they spent on screen.

On the plus side, it was filmed pretty damn well and it had the classic cliché's of hopelessness and social collapse fount in these types of films, but it just seemed to drag on for too long.

Before that I saw Zombieland which I thought was hilarious. Even though it's basically Left 4 Dead with Woody Harrelson, a guy who is basically the clone of Michael Cera, one of the chicks from Superbad and the girl from Little Miss Sunshine, I found it a much better movie than Shaun of the Dead.

Okay..Wedding Crashers is brilliant. One of the best comedies ever.

But that's not what I saw last...that was someone elses earlier comment.

I saw "Knowing" last night.

Gotta say...not really worth the time. It was pretty much a cop out. Kinda like using God to explain everything. When in doubt...God did it..AND he works in mysterious way..so...stop thinking...shut up..and don't tell others about your crazy doubt....OR we'll kill you.

*chuckle* Funny religion.

Anyway...in Knowing...they use a similar device to wrap everything up. And I love the "device" as a topic. But I don't like it when it's used as an explain all kinda thing.

(I'm trying to be vague so I don't spoil it for anyone who DOES choose to see it.)

But yeah...not so great..not horrible but not good.

Cheers

Surrogates was terrible, aight? Last film I watched. I thought the premise was at least fairly interesting, but they managed to make it bad despite that.

Today I saw Monty Python and the holy Grail, again. It doesn't get old. 10/10

I also saw Capote, and it was pretty good. PS Hoffman was great, totally deserved the Oscar, I think. 8/10

I thought it was very entertaining, even though it had a lot of factual errors and fiction about Capote.

Just finished "The Watchmen"

hmmm...philosophically it raises some great questions and ideas.

Other than that....it's not really.."entertaining" per se. It's very long.

And it leaves me going..."huh...okay."

Cheers
