French magazine, Jeuxactu, were one of the lucky few who were allowed a sneak peek at Muse's new album, The 2nd Law.
You can read their full review, here (in French), or check out the brief summary below (sorry for the translation - feel free to send us alternatives!).
Supremacy:
Guitar riffs looks like Led Zeppelin, no real structure
Madness:
A surprisingly calm son. The electro arrangements remind of Depeche Mode
Panic Station:
Punk and disco at the same time. Huge single material
Follow me:
It goes crescendo. starts quietly and ends in an almost dancefloor beat with big bass
Animals:
Fast beat, you expect heavy riffs but they never come. Short guitar solo. The Song is a little bit underwhelming
Explorers:
Nice voice of Matt for a song that looks a bit like Blackout. Not very original song. Lyrics: Can you free me from this world
Big Freeze:
Very surprising song. Very funk but also very Musey. Single material also
Save me:
Very different because of the low voice of Chris
Liquid State:
Rockiest (heaviest?) song of the album. Chris sounds like the singer of Tool
Unsustainable:
Music of the trailer... No further info
Isolated system.
Begins very calm. No singing at all, main part is piano. Ends with the voice of a woman in a loop

It's only one line descriptions and they're translated at that. Might be a badass album.
But yeah, from that it just sounds like The Resistance all over again. Might be a little early to get the cigars out and start patting myself on the back, but I did call that months ago when so many were talking about "System of a Down style riffage" and "Justice electro prog!".
Still, the proof will be in the pudding. Nothing but speculation at this point.

I wish there was a little more depth to these descriptions but.. I guess that is also the glory of it.

Google translated the original article for me and it gave a little more info. For Save Me, the last sentence they had was "Chris gives a far worse record than his collegue" the translation is a bit dodgy, but that doesn't sound like a good thing.

Here's my summary of the article :
01. Supremacy
No real structure, sometimes reminds of the “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin with its guitar riff and its symphonic orchestration.
02. Madness
A calm, languorous and sweet song, it’s surprising to find this one that early in the tracklist according to the journalist. The electronic arrangements really remind of Depeche Mode, just like in Undisclosed Desires.
03. Panic Station
“Bounding bass” à la Red Hot Chili Peppers. Both funk and disco (Muse dared using brass), this song is very likely to become a single. Hearing it on the radio in a few months wouldn’t be surprising.
06. Follow Me
Starting with some soft keyboard along with a voice echoing, the song intensifies and builds into an almost dancefloor rythm with a buzzing bass. This track is out of the ordinary.
07. Animals
Quite a fast tempo at the beginning, which makes one expect a flood of riffs… but that never happens. The song sometimes reminds of Radiohead, gets a little heavier with a guitar solo which turns out to be pretty short in fact. The “damb squib” of the album.
08. Explorers
Matt’s vocal signature shoots right in the middle from the beginning, a ballade in the style of Blackout. “Can you free me from this world”, Matt sings on this track which turns out to be the less surprising of the album.
09. Big Freeze
As puzzling as Panic Station. A really funk track. The result is striking, although we can still hear Muse’s style on this track which could become a single as well.
10. Save Me
The first split in the album. The transition is a little bit surprising as Chris’ voice is really different from Matt’s (Chris sings much lower).
11. Liquid State
With no doubt the rockiest track on the album. Chris’ voice almost sounds like Maynard James Keenan’s sometimes (the singer of Tool).
12. T2L : Unsustainable
Everyone already knows this first part (from the teaser of the album). Only sequence influenced by dubstep in the album.
13. T2L : Isolated System
Starts slowly, and then intensifies. No singing but a lot of keyboard. The song ends with a female voice in a loop.

I like the sound of the female voice in a loop at the end. The rest sounds... extremely underwhelming, but at the same time, different and slightly exciting.

Isolated System sorta sounds in the way of The Gallery with a voice loop.

Proper translation (as someone already posted) is that he just sings lower than Matt.

Yay for Liquid State then

Very exciting. Not sure about Madness anymore though. They're calling it calm? No one else who's heard it called it calm.

Zane Lowe said that the first single was really minimal or something didn't he?

Here is the full translation. I did it very rapidly so be indulgent.
A few days ago, we have had the chance to listen to the most awaited rock album this year. Here are our feelings about The 2nd law, the sixth album of Muse that will be release on September 17.
1. Supremacy : The 2nd Law is opening with a track that sounds familiar (I could swear that Muse had at least two tracks containing the word supremacy but it isn’t the cas). Without a strong strucuture, « Supremacy » recalls Led Zeppelin’s « Kashmir » with its guitar riff and symphonic orchestration.
2. Madness : Althoughthe album seemed to begin with a good rythm, Madness is a very quiet, languishing and pleasant track. It is surprising to fin dit soearly in the album. The electro arrangement make us think of Depeche Mode, like in Undisclosed Desires on Resistance.
3. Panic Station : The song’s rythm and it’s jumping bass guitar makes us think of RHCP. Funk and disco at the same time (Muse used trumpets), this song is a potential single.
4. Prelude : is the intro in Survival, the London 2012 official OG’s anthem.
5. Survival : Hard no to think of Queen when hearing this. Since the beginning we can feel Freddie’s gost’s influence. It is easier to listen to it a as part of the album than alone.
6. Follow Me : is a title going crescendo, beginning with keys coming along Matth’s voice sounding like an echo and finishing with an almost-dancefloor-rythm. Unusual.
7. Animal sis beginning with a rapid pace annoucinghuge riffs that…never come. The song sometimes sounds a bit like Radiohead. There is a very short solo. We have got the feeling Muse was holding on.
8. Explorers : Matth’s voice signature touches us directly with this songs that is in the same idea of Blackout on Absolution. Matt sings « Can You free me in this wolrd ? ». The least surprising song.
9. Big Freeze : Disturbing (positively). Like Panic Station, this songs goes really out of the beaten tracks and goes a bit funky. Really surprising ! However, Muse’s signature is still very recognisable.
10. Save Me : First « break » of the album : Chris is singing, instead of Matth. The transition is a bit perturbating because their voice are very different. Chris sings lower.
11. Liquid State : is the second track sung and written by Chris and is definitively the most Rock’n’roll song of the 2nd law.
12. The 2nd law, unsustainable : Known by everyone.
13. « The 2nd law : isolated system » : begins quietly before accelerating to a much higher pace. No singing on this track, keyboards having the biggest part. The song ends with a female voice repeating itself again and again.

It sounds like I'm going to love Follow Me, Explorers, and maybe the final track. That's more than I liked on Black Holes by two, and the same as Resistance.
That wouldn't be so bad. I'll start getting worried when I don't like a single track they release, which almost happened with BH&R.
Hmm, good news I guess. I'm not worried now that I know at least one thing about each song, even if they go against my own taste.

It begins.
Officially excited for Supremacy, Liquid State, and Isolated System. The last track sounds like it might be weird and experimental.

mmm after reading the article here are my thoughts:
1- supremacy: right now I think it's gonna be my favorite track, it seems amazing!
2- madness: seems nice, if it sounds like UD it's good, by I think it's also alot more rock so I think it's gonna be perfect (for a single)
3- panic station: mmm seems nice too, maybe even more than madness... wait and see
4- prelude
5- survival: I already like it, it's not amazing but still good
6- follow me: I was expecting guiding light, but apprently no so again wait and see, it might be one of my favorite
7-animals: I was expecting a heavy track but we'll see again...according to NME MK ultra was the weakest track on the resistance -_- so who knows
8- explorers: how did this song go from pop choral to sounding like blackout??????
9- big freeze : sounds good too
10- save me: I am expecting something basic but nice like endlessly
11- liquid state: yay for chris!
12- unsustainable that's just the trailer...disapointed
13- isolated system: it seems amazing, but a little disapointed by the absence of vocals
well I thought I was disapointed but, while writing my thoughts it turns out I am kind of excited.
I still think it won't be in my top three with abso, OOS and TR and that it will be a little weak
NB: where the hell is this from???

Still too early to speculate, but none of this surprises me. However, I'm looking forward to hearing Chris' efforts.

I think this might be a very surprising and enjoyable album, to be honest.

They were supposed to be going back to their roots and going heavy. Seems they have extended the resistance. Chances ar it will be the album to finish off my admiration of them
