This is Muse fan board, apparently the most vocal and committed fans in the world. Everyone should email the fuck out of the Olympic community with well worded and persuasive arguments questioning why they'd ask the best live band in the world to mime, rather than actually using the opportunity to showcase to the world what a properly good live band is.

Let's be honest, the majority of the people who watch the Olympics won't be bothered about the music aspect of it. And people keep speaking like Muse have been singled out for this miming, everybody has to do it, it isn't like they've personally asked them to mime. And Muse could quite easily have turned it down if they themselves didn't agree with it.

I'm not all for it, it'd be better if everything was live, but I do think some people are getting a bit too annoyed by it.

it's not going to be the end of the world (even if the Mayans predict this) if Muse do have some element of Miming.. although i will miss the flamboyant ridiculing and mickey taking on stage. They will play it straight and narrow, toeing the line being well behaved.

They've mimed before, they'll probably mime again. Off the top of my head I've seen them mime Supermassive Blackhole in Italy a couple of times, and Plug in Baby once, and I think Map of the Problematique.

As long as everyone is made aware beforehand that the bands are going to be miming, it's fine with me. I also think since likely no one is going to the Closing Ceremonies to watch Muse or any other one particular band, it's not a big deal.

In the end, no one remembers the musical performances at Olympic events. I can tell you Nickelback performed in Vancouver, that's about it, and I can't remember if it was mimed or not.

I only said Nickelback because, like I said, no one remembers who performs at these things, they're just the most famous Canadian band. The only significant performance I guess was K.D. Lang doing Hallelujah, which was done live, but was probably done to a backing track(looked it up and there were no musicians on stage with her).

Point is that this isn't a Muse show, and everyone going to the ceremony is going in fully aware that the live acts are only partially live. It's not like anyone's getting ripped off, and in the end Muse's performance will be just another 100 000 view youtube video, like hundreds of others.

Making a big deal out of this is silly. Saying that you wish Muse wouldn't have become associated with the Olympics in the first place is another issue all together.

The Olympics: one of the worst things to happen to London and now Muse ! Seriously hate it. Taken the credibility out of music, and now getting bands to pander to their requests. Just because Muse may have mimed before, doesn't mean I'm in any way okay with that either. If you're a respected live band, you wouldn't accept it. It's not 'the end of the world', no, but it makes me lose quite a bit of respect for them.

Haters gotta hate, lovers gotta love..

for all the staging and attention to detail thats going on; and given the dodgy circumstances how the UK got the Olympics, its should be a great opportunity to showcase London and various other sites of sporting events, as well as the athletes and their talents. and yay for the economy too, Brucey bonus!

For all we know Muse may well play their set live, just have to wait and see.

And correct wejo99, its it not just a Muse show and thats worth keeping in mind.
I'm sure Muse would be happy knowing that Survival is one song they could perceivably put to rest rather quickly at the end of the Olympics with a massive bang. Fit for purpose with a short shelf-life. That song won't or shouldn't be a reflection upon the true nature of what Muse really stand for.

Would you want to hear Survival being played on setlists during their tour though.. thats an entirely different question altogether.

muse for me is epicness and over the topness, so survival is Muse's true nature

edit:
who cares if its live as long as they play live during their tour

I want to see it live.

But it would be very Muse-like to never play it anymore after the Olympics.
Except in Japan.

But with more people.

Yeah wheel out Kasey Chambers again. She's still relevant, right?

Still, I wouldn't blame you Tim. The song is fucking horrific.
