A new (experimental) add-on for Firefox. It shows you how your information is shared between websites you visit and third parties as a neat spider diagram. Fascinating and scary. Why did IMDB send my information to amazon.com? Creepy.

Apparently, when the full add-on is released, you'll have the option of sending the information about who's the least careful with your data, which would then be sent on to the EU and Privacy watchdogs. Really great thing.

People get too worked up over their information on the net. You willingly input that information they didn't spy on you and go through your bins to get it, you handed it over so it's fair game what they do with it. If you don't like that you should never have given it in the first place.

All I've done is browse these sites. But they've sent the information and installed cookies to monitor what I look at and do. I have no account on many of the sites that track my data. I haven't typed anything personal in, but they build up a profile. You should see how much comes flying of certain sites. I clicked an inquirer article when writing the OP, and shitloads of stuff came off.

I'm fine with to a point, but I've realized over the last year my advertisements have become way to customized. I search something on youtube and then all my advertisements all over the web, (google sponsored or not)suddenly start showing things related to that? I would understand if my youtube ads were custimized, or maybe even all google ads, but then facebook picks up on that too? I would like to know at least how it's shared before I agree to let it go out everywhere. Privacy policies of sites are always pretty vague on it.

So much of my info seems to be going here.

I checked it out, and most of it seems to be going to 3rd party sites. Muselive shared in 4 different places too.

It would be really ironic if this app then sent on all of your browsing data to advertisers and sites like Google and Amazon.

The diagram looks really cool but I'm not worried about it or anything.

It's funny how my website is apparently sharing data with one of my client's sites. But it doesn't seem to have picked up my site sharing data with google even through I use analytics, but it has picked that up on the client's site.

If you don't want to see any ads at all, get adblock plus. It is seriously good, webpages load quicker and I remain blissfully unaware about how personal ads are becoming. Also, I think the cookies look for keywords or phrases should you type something in and uses that info for customization too.

Yeah, I have adblocker, but doesn't that just stop ads from showing? I wouldn't have thought it would stop them collecting your data?

It stops them from showing, so as a result, I don't know what the ads are and I don't care to know what the ads are because any kind of ad is annoying.
