Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic.
Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal.
Group C: Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Croatia.
Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England.
Tricky groups for Ireland and England, and Group B is just nasty. What's the thoughts then?

That wasn't too bad, both my teams of interest did OK. France will have to fancy their chances of going through but it will be tough and at the least Irelands group will be entertaining, I predict much bitching about cheating Italians and to be fair they haven't been as good as they used to be, Ireland could scrape through.
I was hoping that France would get England, they are arguably the weakest from that pot. But who knows, maybe they will turn up for once. Stranger things have happened.
That said every team in Group D would be thinking they have a chance of getting through.
Group B sounds a lot worse than it probably is, Netherlands and Germany to go through, comfortably?

Tricky group for England? Are you kidding me? England's got a great draw.
Replace germany with Spain and our draw probably couldnt have been worse. We'll play and try. We've beaten portugal recently so we know that's possible. And then we "just" need to upset either Netherlands or Germany. Chances of us getting through: less than 5%. Not giving up though...
My guess would be:
Group A: 1. Russia, 2. Greece
Group B: 1. Netherlands, 2. Germany
Group C: 1. Spain, 2. Italy
Group D: 1. England, 2. Sweden

England do have a good draw.. We know we can beat Sweden, France aren't exactly the best at the moment.. and Ukraine can be both amazing and mediocre.

France are probably the best in that group though, England could be if they play to their potential but that never happens and they haven't beaten France since '97. Plus France have beaten England, Brazil, US and Ukraine 4-1 already this last year. Ukraine have home advantage which must count for something but then again they wouldn't of even qualified had it been normal circumstances.
And Sweden are a bit pants.
It should be England and France but I expect Ukraine to ruin somebody's party.

I was going to root for Croatia, because they've been playing the most beautiful football of the 8 lowest ranked teams. However, now that they're in group with a galacticos Spanish and an increasingly impressive Italian side, I'll just enjoy watching that one group.
And Holland - Germany to see our rowdy neighbours get a thorough spanking.
Group A is a disgrace though, time that home countries lose their protected position.

Ah thats right. Meant replace netherlands with spain
And I agree that hosts should lose their top seed. Especially when 2 out of 16 teams are hosts. It makes a world of difference whether you draw spain or poland. Imagine group B with Poland instead of Netherlands. Then we'd actually have a shot. And if they didnt get an automatic top seed, denmark wouldnt have been in the bottom seeding pot and we wouldve at least avoided portugal and couldnt have had both netherlands and germany in the same group. Basically. We'd have a shot no matter the group if Ukraine and Poland hadnt gotten automatic top seed.. You'd think a spot in the championship is enough reward for hosting.

France are unbeaten for 17 games, and the last time we played them, we were convincingly beaten. Sweden are also a tough well organised side, and will be hard to breakdown. As for Ukraine, they will be hugely motivated to do well and could also present a challenge for England. My worry is that we could end up going out not on account of losing, but by drawing games.
England always struggle on a psychological level and defeat to France in the opening game could have a knock on effect. The one man you would turn to would be Wayne Rooney, he's the man who can unlock the door and produce something special, well he's not around for the group stage, so it's a big problem.
Not an easy group at all. England's best chance to win a trophy was 2006-2010 and we missed Euro 2008, and underperformed in the others. That was the golden generation and we blew it.

Netherlands isn't that impressive of a team, to be honest. Their defense is incredibly average. They have an incredible attack, but if we consider that van Persie usually plays really badly for the national team, and that half of their attacking players are injured half the season (Robben, van der Vaart, even van Persie sometimes), they can be beaten by Portugal and even Denmark. Besides, Portugal has been lucky the last times they've faced Netherlands. I find it amusing people keep saying it is a closed deal, some say it's not that interesting of a group, seeing as Germany and Netherlands will go through comfortably. Let's wait and see.
Germany, on the other hand, have an incredible squad, with amazing goal scorers (Gomez, Podolski), great players in the midfield, attacking or deffending (Özil, Khedira, Schweinsteiger, Müller), a solid defense and probably one of the best keepers in the world. Plus, they all play in the same league and they have simply the best collective besides Spain.
My predictions:
A.
1. Greece
2. Russia
B.
1. Germany
2. Portugal
C.
1. Spain
2. Italy
D.
1. France
2. Sweden

England have drawn a pretty good group considering the other teams in the competition, but it's still not going to be particularly easy. I reckon we'll struggle into the knockouts though. Not sure how far we'll get after that.
Small change got rained on with his own thirty-eight, and nobody flinched, down by the arcade.

Are you sure? The team that came second in the last world cup, breezed through the qualifying matches and sit 2nd in the world right now? Lets compare that to Portugal, by all accounts have been pretty average. When they need to, Netherlands step it up a gear. When they need to, Ronaldo steps it up a gear, but i've yet to see Portugal doing the same. They're a young team and need time, I just can't see them getting past the Netherlands and Germany.
And quite frankly, I have no desire to be proved wrong. If the Netherlands don't qualify i'll rage. :P

I'm not sure we're better, but I'm pretty sure we're not that inferior. Since the hack Carlos Queiroz left Portugal, we've been excellent, only losing this game against Denmark, where a lot of things went wrong, something that will surely not be repeated in the Euro. Netherlands always breezes through qualifying stages, even when they're not as strong, that's because they've always had a great attack. Against a decent organized team they usually have trouble. Even Sneijder was having the season of his life in the last world cup, today is not playing that well. Obviously Netherlands and Germany are favorites, just saying we can go through as well.

Looking at the qualifying tables for the Euro 2012 is pretty interesting. Saying France have been very strong recently isn't really backed up by the stats, 6W 3D 1L isn't exactly great when looking at the group they were placed in. However Spain 8W 0D 0L + a slightly stronger group looks a lot better, but then they go and lose to England... That's all part of the game though. Netherlands 9W 1L having scored 37 goals, I'd be very surprised if they don't get through to the knock out stages. Hopefully this'll be a better tournament for England than the awful world cup :P

Same goes for France really, I think the main difference between the two is the French have a re-built team and are not expecting much. I have watched all the French matches and they have a excellent young side and they are actually playing for Blanc. But if they go out it wont be a national tradgedy.

You being serious?
First two games are against France and a team we've never beaten competively in Sweden, and we're without Rooney. Perfect.

Fair enough! I get your point, I reckon they'll be severely tested against Germany.. they could actually lose that one. Germany are really very strong, they could easily beat any team in the world (I shall include Spain - they're not invincible) But I will say one thing, in the last World Cup, the Netherlands played Brazil and beat them. Sure, they might have come unstuck against Spain.. but hey, they're up there with the favourites.
