This too, is my guilty pleasure.
Love is a shadow in the brightness it dies.
I want to scream one last death medley.

Why is Cee Lo Green a guilty pleasure. Gnarls Barkley isn't? Or is it?

Cee Lo Green is awesome. Have you heard that joint with MF Doom? We have great mainstream artists but the thing is most of the things you like about pop music aren't made by the artists, they are made by producers that we don't even know. for example, Bad Romance wouldn't be that good without that production, and that upsets me because we give her all the credit. same goes for most of them

Yeah but the same can be said for a lot of artists that aren't pop. The production can, and has frequently, changed the sound of an album to an almost immeasurable degree.
Even if we use Muse as an example - you hear the songs live and songs like Butterflies & Hurricanes and The Small Print fit right along side songs from Origin. But on record, the production has made them sound so much cleaner - overproduced you could even say.
A great example I suppose would be Nirvana. They essentially made three grungey rock records. They're not vastly different in lyrical style, or in the mix between heavy and softer parts. And yet each sounds completely different. Bleach is raw. Nevermind sounds super clean and commercial. And In Utero is noisy and abrasive like a live set in a garage.
Songs like Radio Friendly Unit Shifter and Smells Like Teen Spirit sound like they're from different bands, but in the studio the takes probably didn't sound so dissimilar.
The production can completely change the sound of a recording, for better or for worse, whether you're Lady Gaga or The Beatles.

Cee Lo Green doesn't have to be a guilty pleasure anymore, it's Pitchfork approved.

Pitchfork's fucked....it approves of chart music like Rihanna, as well as the lofi hipster garbage, but gives a pretty decent album (not to mention well produced) like BHAR a rating of 4.2/10...??????!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pop is great. To make a killer hook takes just as much talent as writing a solid riff...
