In a week where UK media watchdogs have questioned the ethical policies behind X factor's audition process, I felt that people were really starting to take responsibility for the power they have as an audience to ensure that shows, reality based or otherwise, are conducted and produced to the highest moral standards. Well, something like that... Anyway I digress.
Despite this, I all at once was reminded that we have a long way to fall before reaching the stomach churning ethics of Hollywood, who on Monday evening, dedicated an entire hour or so of television to publicly humiliating a man who is known to be suffering from mental illness and substance abuse. Everybody is aware of some of the things that Charlie Sheen has had to say about his work colleagues and his boss, and it is enough to summise that this is a man who has some real demons to deal with. Where he should be is the nearest rehabilitation facility, not placed on a podium for spectators to tear into.
But alas, there he was with on his throne, mastering the gaunt, soulless look of junkie whilst hollywood's best known comics and celebrities sat around to enjoy the spectacle. All fair game of course, because he's famous, and has money. Yes, fair game.
Hollywood. Shit it.

I almost watched the entire Roasting of David Hasselhoff yesterday. I don't see the problem.

It's a roast. It's an honor for comedians and some actors alike. Sure the jokes can seem mean, but if anyone took any real offense to them, there wouldn't be roasts anymore. Anything any actors or comedians do not want mentioned is taken into account. In this case, Charlie Sheen asked for jokes about his mother to be edited out of the broadcast.

I think the issue is more that Charlie Sheen has gone on a bit of a rampage and instead putting him up there and making jokes about his naughty little cocaine addiction and borderline mental breakdown he should be taken away by the men in white coats until he's sorted himself out and then look back at it and make light of it.
Personally, I don't know. It certainly doesn't irritate me that he's on prime time instead of in rehab but I can understand why some people would be irked by it.
I didn't watch it, either.

On the David Hasselhoff episode they kept making fun of his alcohol abuse too, I guess that's the same thing.
But if they're up there laughing about it, why shouldn't we. They're not that far gone that they can't make decisions anymore.

I couldn't give two flying fucks about it.
Who cares, there are loads of better or worse things going on in the world right now and I don't see the point in caring this much over something so innocuous.
Giving a shit about this is just feeding the beast.

its a roast, what do people expect?

It was brilliantly entertaining. Sheen took it in his stride and gave as good as he got. It just all seemed completely scripted which is the only thing I disliked about it.
Id happily punch you all in the face

I watched the one with Steve O, found it funny, until that woman comedian took it too far with the Ryan Dunn joke.
Take the pieces and build them skywards.

Watched it last night, and found it pretty damn funny. Fair play to Charlie for taking some of the jokes in jest, because one or two were brutal. Although my favourite one was Tyson's joke to Seth MacFarlane about "stealing from Homer".

I lost it at that :P
I just watched it, and I must say it was rather funny. I honestly didn't like that they spent more time taking shots at the other comedians than Charlie Sheen tho.
