The single player in BC2 isn't worth the effort. If you want a great campaign then I don't get why you'd even buy a game like Battlefield, which is 99% multiplayer focused.
Put it this way. I completed the BC2 campaign in about 5 hours. I've played about 230 hours of multiplayer. The ratio probably goes the same for most players, and it'll be the same for BF3. So why bother putting that much effort into the campaign? ..when your customers are going to play it once, maybe twice through, and spend the rest of the time on multiplayer.
I get it, a lot of people don't like multiplayer-based games and prefer a good single player. That's fine, but I don't think you really get to have a go at Battlefield because of that. It's like me saying I don't like thrash metal, then slating a thrash metal album based purely on the fact that it's thrash metal. It's silly.

Yeah. The Call of Duty campaigns have been quite good recently. Modern Warfare was far and away the best as it kept the right balance between action movie cliche and genuinely exhilerating set pieces. Later games have upped the set piece ante, but sometimes less is more, and in this case they become a little overkill.
Modern Warfare had the arse droppingly awesome nuke sequence, which they obviously looked at, and tried to replicate a dozen times in Modern Warfare 2. All it does it dilute the appeal of these moments. Black Ops the same.
Battlefield has never had a particularly good campaign, I think. I realise that a lot of people only want the online and couldn't care less about the campaign, but it's still part of the game.

The amount of people who have commented on steam's MW3 pre purchase facebook status saying "no thanks, rather have BF3" is hilarious.

I read that earlier, it sounds awesome
People didn't believe me when I said there was a separate co-op campaign, the fools. I'm still not expecting that good a single player/co-op, but it'd certainly be a nice bonus.

No, neither am I, but I'm ready to be dazzled. When I get it, I just know I'm going straight online and bypassing single player until about a year down the line when I emerge from my room.

I'll probably play the single player and co-op on PC a few days after it comes out, when everyone else has passed out from sleep deprivation.
But yeah, I'm hopeful rather than expectant.

the campaign is still always the first thing I try out with a FPS, of which i prefer CoD, although Black Ops was so heavily drenched in the clips of whats-his-face in the chair.
So, to me i dont see why a lot of people reject CoD because BF3 exists, but then if you're a MP-only player than fair-do's.
Im sure there's plenty of CoD fans who equally enjoy BF/BC.

I enjoyed the campaign in Modern Warfare. MW2 was slightly more BAAAAH EXPLOSIONS HURRR, but fun nonetheless. The trailers for MW3 suggest it will be ten times worse- all set pieces, no real purpose or substance. They're like the Alien films- the first one was brilliant because it had everything in moderation. The second one ramped up the action but was still enjoyable. And the third one was just... too much, and it wasn't particularly good. I think MW3 will be like that.
I didn't bother with the campaign in Black Ops because I played a few hours online, got bored, and wanted to just return it for full price rather than trade it in.
I just find it strange that people are so focused on the single player with games that are, clearly, built as multiplayer games first. Like I said, it's fine if you prefer playing on your own, good stories etc... but judging a game by that is in no way fair.

I don't think this clearly is multiplayer designed first. Almost all the footage is from the campaign.

What, MW3?
Yeah, its focus is multiplayer. It's what keeps people playing the game, buying DLC, etc... the only reason we always see campaign footage first is because it makes it easier to show off graphics, set pieces and the like. Multiplayer footage in Call of Duty would consist of guys flopping to the ground whenever they see an enemy, people hiding in corners with remote control cars and cameras, jumping around trying to no scope people...
Plus showing too much multiplayer might put potential customers off (if someone sees something they don't like, that kind of thing) and they might not buy it. For Activision, it's better to have them buy it, realise they don't like it, and trade it in.

A campaign often lends a context to the multiplayer. All the settings and teams, weapons and such all derive from s.p. Not that it *needs* it. But i think single player is still a huge aspect, especially for Call of Duty - they did afterall, hire Hans Zimmer to help create the soundtrack for MW2. Black Op's and WaW used some big name actors, such as Gary Oldman, and the story element featured consultation by David S. Goyer who's worked with some big Hollywood films. Now that doesnt come cheap, so i think that shows they have a commitment to producing a decent campaign.
But of course, the multiplayer is what gets the money in, the amount Activision makes from DLC's is eye-wateringly huge.
At the moment, big games seem to imitate previous big movies in plot, i hope soon they could rival movies for coming out with as inventive stories. (if such things exist).

MOH always had the best campaigns as far as FPS's's's went. CoD's are always a bit tedious for me cause i'm OCD and have to do them on veteran.
YOU PAID FOR THE WHOLE SEAT BUT YOUŽLL ONLY NEED THE EDGE

MoH was great, but looking back I can't stand the picking up healthpacks thing. Somewhere along the way, regenerative health just took over and im used to it.

The bulk of the footage came from E3, and that can only be Single Player anyway. Alpha testers have been uploading a lot of amateur multiplayer gameplay, and the official video releases have all been multiplayer.

Well, the same applies. The 12 minute trailer released a few months ago was as much a technical demo as it was a trailer. It showed off the new engine, new graphics etc... for the same reasons I said Activision hasn't shown much multiplayer from MW3.

The reason i judge COD on singleplayer first is that multiplayer is the same basic thing every time. It hasn't changed since MW. So no good singleplayer, nothing new.
Battlefield comes out much less, and it's multiplayer is deep and has large variety of vehicles. I love FPS with vehicles.
oh new trailors look sick too. More variety of vehicles over different maps, the better.

I have never and I never will understand the obsession with Zombie maps on games. I don't see the fun in trying to survive for as long as possible until you're over run by them and die. It seems to be the big fan boys who get a hard on whenever zombies are mentioned.
