I know Wembley has a massive prestige, and it's undoubtedly an achievement for any band to play there. I just want to gauge how Muse fans feel about this.
Muse were the first act to play the new Wembley. It was also a sort of official recognition of how good they really were in the years that preceded '07, for better or worse considering what followed, but that's irrelevant.
They've now played two two date shows at the stadium, and perhaps could maybe even do another in the future. Not only does this devalue the HAARP gigs to an extent, but it also diminishes the aura and exclusivity that Wembley has. Consider Queen playing Wembley, and how iconic and geniunely massive that was and is (I can only speak from the 'is' perspective, obviously), and ask yourself; were either the '07 or '10 shows equally powerful?
Of course, music has changed, society has changed, and perhaps Wembley is now a viable venue for all mainstrem bands, not just great bands.
To sum this up, Take That is playing 8 dates at Wembley this summer. Yes, 8. Just want to know what Muse fans think of this...?

Only one of those was for REAL FANS, so yeah...

i've been saying that for a while. particularly take that diminishing wembley stadium gigs. they played it in 2010 aswell, my ex went.
no doubt take that are massively successful, and have a huge following. but 8 times is ridiculous. i agree completely that it should take a certain caliber to play that stadium. and it shouldnt be readily available for anybody at any time. england lifted the world cup there.
that said, i was at haarp and the 2010 gigs. and i perferred the 'real fans' one myself, but i've never ever enjoyed a gig more than those two. i dont think i could forget about them.
i never really thought about them being the first to play new wembley. what i always considered absolutely fucking amazing, was that wembley holds i think around 80,000 seats. plus i dont even know how many people standing. muse sold it out on all 4 occasions in incredible time.

George Michael was actually the first act to play at the new Wembley. Muse were the first to sell it out, I believe.

Really? Thought it was Muse...nevermind, the sentiment still stands. It was meant to be special.
It just seems that Wembley is now just another leg of a stadium tour. Which is alright because, as I said, times change, and if Wembley no longer has the aura it once had, there's not a lot anyone can do about that. I just wanted to know how other Muse fans felt.
Perhaps this has no substance, I'm not sure. I would feel justified if Muse played it again within the next three years. However, from Muse's perspective, are you really going to turn down the opportunity to play Wembley? No, you're not, and though it can grate with fans, you have to remember this. It's like headlining festivals; it's almost getting tiresome, and inevitable, for Muse to headline a British festival. But they're reaching out to fans who otherwise wouldn't pay £40+ to see their album tour, and it's also an opportunity to play gigs that aren't promoting said album (OoS being played this summer). Perhaps that says as much about the dearth of decent bands as it does Muse's excellence...
Anyway, it just pissed me off to see 8 nights for Take That, the definition of tepid Middle England mediocrity. To be fair, it's not like new bands play Wembley; Green Day, U2, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Metallica...considering this, Muse are almost rookies (they're the newest), and having played it twice, that's an amazing achievement. Oh well...just wanted other perspectives...

To be honest, I'd say that Take That is easily more popular than Muse. The fact that they have sold out each night at Wembley as well as Sunderland and City of Manchester Stadium proves that. So fair play to them, they are popular to play Wembley 8 times and have each date sold out in a matter of hours.
I wouldn't be surprised if Foo Fighters played Wembley again on the Wasting Light Tour, Green Day would have probably played Wembley if it had been built during the American Idiot tour, they're probably play it on the next tour too.
You have to be popular to play stadiums really, you wouldn't see smaller bands playing Wembley as a headline show.
But yeah, the 2007 shows were massive for different reasons, being the first band to play and sell out New Wembley. And yes, George Michael was the first act to play there. But I don't think 2010 has damaged the prestige of 2007.
Take the pieces and build them skywards.

What you forget is that Wembley Stadium as a project was originally going to be a concert venue anyway as well as a multi-sport venue. And that's before the massive delays in the finishing of construction and the fact that it was around £300 million over budget by the end of it. The people who run the stadium have to make the money back somehow, and music concerts are a good opportunity to do that.
And to be honest, not wanting the band to repeat doing something so insignificant as playing at a certain venue or playing a certain song *cough* people who went to RAH and saw Megalomania *cough* is really quite selfish.

I'm not forgetting what the purpose of the new stadium is, and the deal that demands it should be a multi purpose stadium (just like the Millenium Stadium...which means both their pitches are shite when it comes to international games).
And this then confirms that I'm right in my assessment that playing Wembley no longer comes with the prestige it once had; or, indeed, the legacy it leaves (think Queen, Live Aid). It's obviously special, but something of a halfway house between what the Old Wembley used to be, and 'just another' stadium gig (if the sense that playing Parc de Princes is 'just another' gig).

I think playing Wembley is always special for anyone who plays there, especially when its for the first time in that artists career. It might not have the gravitas it once had (that happened when they knocked the old one down) but it's still impressive when an artist can sell it out for a night or two. Take That doing 8 nights this summer is absolutely nuts.
Funny that you made this thread on this date too, exactly 4 years since Muse first played Wembley, hard to believe it's been 4 years!

The 2007 Wembley gigs will always be THE gigs as far as I'm concerned, particularly the first night (cos I was there!). It was the climax of everything Muse had been building towards since their inception. The peak was well and truly reached.
Good, good times.

^ Yep wish I was there, HAARP shows it as perhaps their pinnacle live performance.
I think Wembley should be something special and only played for one or two dates.
However some may just see it as another massive venue and fair play to Take That for selling it out 8 times

The HAARP Wembley was so SO much better than the Resistance Wembley, IMO.
