I think The Resistance is a brilliant album, but I hope they take another direction with the next one. Saw some great gigs, most of the songs on the album are very good, so I'm pleased with the tour.
But, let's hope they're able to renew themselves for the next one.

The Album - 4/10. The resistance is my least favorite album mainly to do with the obvious fact that it is so commercially constructed and uninspiring. Anybody could have done Undisclosed Desires and to be honest, anyone could have done Uprising for that matter. While Mk Ultra and the symphonies are great... the album, to me, was a substantial failure.
The Bsides - 0/10
Suck it
The Appearance - 4/10
While i loathed the lame costumes, the pomposity and Matt's attitude of taking the piss, i got used to it as the tour went on. Muse's music was so important to me emotionally but for them to treat songs like Eurasia as a parody of 'Muse'...that pissed me off big time and hurt a bit too. Not to mention the existence of NSC
The Commercialism -5/10
Well... what they did with supermassive black hole was understandable and very beneficial to the lads, but this time around the twilight thing was just cringe-worthy. They didnt want to do it, the video clip was horrible, and alot of muselivers lost faith in their integrity. BUT, they did what they set out to do... make alot of $.
The Tour 7/10
The performances are being talked about on here asif Muse have hit their peak... and that just isnt a reality, there's no argument, im sorry While they did an amazing job at the performance that i saw near the end of the Australia tour, they were nowhere close to the energy of their previous 2007 performance (i got to see them at bdo and rod laver in that year). They've been playing plug in baby and newborn for too long now and the spontaneity just isnt their like it used to be. It was so much fun, but a decline nonetheless.
The Setlists - 3/10
I've said it too many times now, but the guys really fucked us over with the setlist for this tour. the 'choose' the summer setlist sham was bullshit and they were more than happy to play filler such as feeling good over a HUGE back catalog of superior songs. Even though i can only speculate, i dont believe that they would have brought back citizen erased if there wasnt fear of a violent revolution from within the fan base! I did see it played however, and it was their best
What will the next album be like? who knows... but they wasted far too much recognition and potential this time around.

for me overall great.
by far better than BH&R (got my hopes up way too high back then).
especially the gig I attended was great. this time I didn't make the mistake of going to several gigs.
also, I stopped reading the forums (too much complaining).

Plea to Muse for the next tour(s) - mix up your setlists each night. Screw the towers.
I'd love to go to a gig, and find it to be completely and utterly random; say, Map of the Problematique, then to Space Dementia, then to Muscle Museum, then Cave, Hoodoo, Unnatural Selection, SMBH, RBS, Uprising, Bliss etc. etc. obviously with a concept of flow as well.
If the gigs (apart from obviously the obligatory scattered singles) had that element of guesswork about them, I'd love to go to as many gigs as possible just to see what came up. Didn't really seem appropriate to go to a few gigs this tour when the setlists were virtually identical.

Preferred the gigs in the BH&R era, but then again I saw Dead Star, Bliss and Space Dementia on the same night.
Next tour? Completely strip it down. Maybe a screen in the background with some video, that'd do. Plenty of stage space, plenty of rock out space. People go to gigs for the music and atmosphere, I think we could live without some flashy lights and stages.

I loved the album and had great times at my four Muse gigs (five if you count Big Day Out). I thought the towers setup was stunning and actually more impressive than the giant Claw stage that U2 had. Setlists could have been more varied, but then the Brisbane concert which had the most mixed-up setlist with most rarities was, overall, the least impressive show of the lot.

best thing about Resistance = Exogenesis and the french part in I Belong to You. these pieces just moved me. i'll take a bow for that Matt.
worst thing : not playing Exogenesis in full. what were they thinking? so what if matt fucks up one note in piano solo part 2. just play the godamn thing with a full orchestra like they have promised us for so long.
worst thing pt2 :
I'm gonna complain about the tour aswell. we have seen it all before.the lights, the spectacle. I want more intimacy.getting closer to the fans. maybe some stripped down versions of some songs. a Mtv Unplugged kind of perfomance with strings, candles and maybe some guest appearances. I know it could work, the acoustic versions of Time Is Running Out,Falling Down and Sing For Absolution on the radio was awesome. and now they have Morgan to pull some plugs there aswell. just go for it!
worst thing pt3 : Undisclosed Desires. meh.
you make me sick

I admire you. It's amazing that your still hanging around here when this is what you think Muse has accomplished the last year and a half. Most people would probably stopped caring long ago
I think it was, as many of you already said, decent. The thing I've been most dissapointed about is that they don't seem to have this 'spark' (that they've hadn't had since Abso IMO) when live anymore. Everything is so clean and, I dunno.. they just don't seem to express themselves as much anymore, and that's sad I think.
As for the album I think it had it's highs and lows. Some song very good, some song decent and some songs as paztopia said, crap.
Oh, and I'm also a little dissapionted they haven't played the full Symphony yet.

The album was bland, safe, and an uninspiring piece of turd once you got over the "OMG NEW ALBUM" hype.
Non-album songs were just woeful - NSC is by far one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life.
I only went to one gig, but it was good and we got B+H and Citizen, but I was expecting more. One thing I just don't understand is why they don't bring along a string section for their shows - the music is basically gagging for some string action to make it sound better. I don't care about a giant UFO pooping out a dancer lady; if the backing track sounds like turd instead of the lush strings it should be then of course I'm going to be annoyed.
I just feel like Muse are trying to portray an image to the media that they're "kooky" and Matt's just trying way too hard to appear weird. Nowt to do with Kate Hudson either (well done for getting a cutey!) but it's things like weird outfits, neon glasses and the stuff that they're not taking their music seriously that ticks me off mostly.
One thing I miss the most is the riffs, and the way they seemed to create music that seemed natural, but also had a certain Musey sound to it. I'm talking about stuff like New Born, Butterflies+H, Muscle Museum, KoC and Megalomania. I only got that with Overture on TR, and the rest of the stuff sounded like re-hash of old stuff, or just music I'd heard of before.
TL;DR - TR album sucked, Muse not taking themselves seriously, and as a result the music is suffering.
Imo of course

BHaR was the best era. No doubt. The live performances on TR tour were excellent, setlists were OK but lacked variety they had on the BHaR tour, the album was merely OK and the less said about the Bsides the better

I find it strange that the people who hate Muse the most are their fans. Peculiar group we have here.
My take:
The album was good. I like a lot of the songs, though not necessarily as an album. It doesn't feel like a cohesive piece at all. BHaR didn't really either, but still somehow moreso than TR.
While the backlash to Exo was expected, I still think it is one of the most amazing things Muse have ever done and, really, the only interesting thing they did with the album. I really like Uprising, Resistance, and I Belong To You as songs, but they don't feel like a band that's trying anything or going anywhere.
As for live, I only saw them twice, but their performance was excellent both times. The problem was that the sets were absurdly short. 14 songs the second time I saw them, and it was the same setlist as the first time I saw... MINUS MOTP and MK... which was pretty fucking lame.
Overall, I think it was a fine era for the band. They wanted to go massive in scope, and that they did. Won't go down as my favorite Muse album by a long shot, but I like it and I'll still bang my head along to the songs at future shows.
