I'm sure there are just as many fans who discovered Muse through Twilight who have now gone out and found everything else they've done too. Everyone always acts like they're so superior to anyone who found out who Muse were through Twilight. It's getting quite ridiculous now.
EDIT: And another thing, even if Muse were only in it for the money (which I don't believe they are), good luck to them. People on here can say how they wouldn't do what they're doing all they like, but that's easy to say. 99.9% will never have a multi-million pound deal sitting in front of them, and so they can't say what it's like.

I used to like the muse fan community because it was an accepting everyone and share the genius art attitude but now its just criticize muse for not doing what people expect and criticize twilight fans because they dont have a valid opinion. It just seems to be crap nowadays. not the same anymore. some closed minded fans ruined it.

I totally agree if your getting at what i think you are. saying it how it is doesn't help anything. i just think its sad that such an amazing thing is or already has come to an end.

I applaud your ability to utterly misinterpret my post. It's cool though. Just like Twilight.

Chris, good on you for being honest. He's right. I can't say I like that they've featured in all the Twilight films and you do have to sort of sell your soul if you want to be successful. It's nice to hear this side of the argument from one of the band members because we mostly hear from Matt who seems to be totally in favor of this new road they're going down. And I don't like it. At least Chris still seems to have not gone crazy.
I'm not sure where people are getting this impression of Matt. He hasn't said anything much different from Chris and neither has Dom.

Well, my thoughts are, I think we need a little bit more "genius art" before we can engage in any "sharing" of that "attitude". I think the only way the muse fan community has changed at all is that there are more new bubble gum pop fans. And I don't think these are the individuals criticizing their new work. So the muse fan community has not really changed at all. In my opinion, it is the band, itself that has changed.

Has ANY band or artist ever just stayed the same throughout their entire career? Look at Bob Dylan, one of the most important artists of our time who went from folk to being plugged in. Why does it surprise people when bands veer in different musical paths? Do you think that as musicians, they would be exercising their skill and potential by staying on one track for more than a decade? You know there are different methods of writing music than just RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS RIFFS!!!!!, right? Muse probably know they can write epic riffs, but they'd be one trick ponies if that's all they resorted to. I don't think The Resistance is evidence of Muse losing their musical integrity or selling out to break America. I think each album has been a reaction to what's going on in the band's life. If you were on the verge of being the biggest band in the world, wouldn't you try and make the biggest record you've ever done? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean there isn't legitimate artistic ambitions behind it. It doesn't matter though, because a bunch of computer nerds will always think they know Muse better than they know themselves.

Dont you just love Chris...I mean really, what a guy!

People are overreacting and not taking this in context.
Chris is just defending the band here. He is admitting (and not ashamed, nor should he be) that the band is willing to do things like that to get more exposure. That's all he was saying.
Selling your soul isn't that big of a deal. Many will say that selling your soul (or selling out) is the ultimate sin in music. Those people, in my opinion, are at the maturity level of 8th grade students that care about image.
Don't get me wrong, I get annoyed when people call Muse "the twilight band". But in the end, I listen to music I want to listen to, and if that bands happens to also be on soundtracks of lame movies, then so be it.
And for those of you that don't like Muse's stuff recently, then that is perfectly respectable. But I don't think you should hold it against Muse, and I definitely don't think it means you should stop listening to them. They might turn back to thier older style again. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe they will change into something different again, something we haven't seen them do. and maybe you will like it, maybe you won't. Doesn't make any of their older albums more or less genius. It simply changes their "image" of the general public, and who fuckin cares about that?

and on topic: chris is the man. it's too bad he's not this outspoken in general.

I guess it sucks being a hardcore fan of any band. All this shit that shouldn't be a big deal is a big deal to us.
I'm sure all the fans of the other bands on the soundtrack feel the same way. I really do wonder what Stephanie Meyer thinks of all this. She's pissing a lot of people off that's for sure. And I honestly would't be surprised even after all of this that they somehow still sneak their way onto the next soundtrack.

She's probably thinking "Wow, I am rich, and I got my favorite band to be in all my movies. Life is good."

It's sometimes very hard not to question their involvement in popculture stuff or the usage of the band name by certain representatives of whatever.
The thing I worry about are the subjects that they read in the music put into words, too straight forward the last two albums....
But the actual music is still mainly the foundation of it all...
And it's not like I expect them to consciously confirm a certain momentarily public or individual perception of who they are as composers.
I mean, except for the obvious it's not like anyone knows what goes on in their minds when writing music or how they evolve in general

Well Lisa he's got you there. I don't think Stephanie Meyer gives a shit about anything and why would you, you've got your very large sum of money with a big house and an expensive car. You needn't care about the rest of the world.
|
|
|
Well I would be a bit sad if my favorite band hated me.....but again with all that money you're right she wouldn't give a shit.
She wouldn't be caught dead at a muse show anytime soon. bad things would surely happen.... no more live show for her

Good point actually, imagine the feeling knowing Chris hates you and thinks he's selling his soul by letting you use some of his music
