Right, here we go. Some might prove controversial, but ah well I'll finish the comments some other time, because I'm knee-deep in work at the moment.
50. Surf Solar – Fuck Buttons [2009]
...
2. New Dawn Fades – Joy Division [1979]
1. Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása - Sigur Rós [1999]
WOW - that is a really well thought out and diverse list, you've clearly given this some serious time and effort, there's no way I'm going to post until I've really thought carefully now.
Thanks
I tried to limit it to one song per artist (I failed; Arcade Fire has Wake Up and Rebellion in there, but they're both great songs anyway) I just wrote down some songs that's infleunced me somehow, then ordered them up. The top 10 was hard, but the hardest thing was knowing which songs to be included in the overall 50.

That's such a beautiful song, a very deserving number one.
Now that nights closing in
And in the half light
We run
Lock us up safe
And hide the key
But the night tears us loose
And in the half light
Were free
Andy is awesome!!

Couldnt agree more
Leading contender for my no. 1 spot.
EDIT: When do the lists have to be done by?
EDIT2: August 15th, okay!
Will start now.
EDIT3: Is Exogenesis all one song?

Good question!
No, the easiest is to take every track that has it's own number on a cd as 1 song.
Remixes and covers are (obviously) allowed as well, they will be counted separately from the genuine song.
If songs fail to make it separately but have different versions voted for, they will get an honourable mention.

Yes, thinking about Sonic Youth's Trilogy convinced me. I mean, I see Exo as a whole, but then they should've put it on the record as one song.

I've already got 60 and that's just straight off the top of my tired little head. This is gonna be hard to narrow down.

There's so many old 80's songs in here because they all remind me of my childhood, and they'll always be the best songs to me.

To be fair though, Toxic is an amazing song, but Bad Romance is possibly the best pop record since Like a Virgin.
