Yeah it's intense. Where are you going to be auditioning?

Sam Houston State University. I'm gonna audition in February for the next year. It's a pretty low key performance school, it's mainly for music ed majors. So I won't have all that high competition and will be capable of doing it.

Bach's Preludes and Fugues don't really appeal to me much, just to....unemotive.
Going to the Open Day for Birmingham Conservatoire on Friday. I hope that I don't get lost like I did last time.....

I loathe the fugues but I've only done 1 prelude and liked it, actually. I hated learning it though and getting the speed.

Can we have a viola thread? Or at least are there any fans of the beautiful instrument in here?
|
|
|
I won't stand in your way if you want to make your own threads for the instrument that you play, I only made this one so I could get some ideas about new pieces to play on my instruments.

Oh I wasn't trying to capitalise on anything Rob, I just like that this thread is working so well and if there was any love for violas in here
|
|
|
I'm sure that someone else mentioned them a few pages back, but it might have been you...:S Personally, I prefer the viola to the violin, mostly because, in my experience, the viola players are nicer people than violinists. The deeper sound is another plus point.

Yeah I agree with you I hoping to become good on mine so I can do it justice.
I love hearing a good clarinet player though; there's one I'm good friends with and when he gets into the full swing of it in a concert, oh it's just beautiful.

I play violin
But I must agree violas are pretty awesome; my bro plays. Most violinists are stuck up their own ass, but I'm extremely modest (don't think I'm superior to everyone and hate to show off).

Right, the 20 year old Yamaha keyboard in my room has given up. Any reccomendations for a replacement? Something around the £400 mark will be fine, an electric piano would be preferable to a crappy keyboard, but I need some built-in drum beats as well, though. I've looked at this, and something similar would be good. I have an amp, so lack of speakers isn't a great hinderance.
@hothedgehog Another summer of instrument hunting awaits!

He he... good work Rob... Have a look at some of the gear4music pianos, i've got one and it's quite nice considering it was pretty cheap! :P They're all unbranded versions of the nice pianos like yamahas etc...
I'm going to miss my clarinet/sax this summer... i'm not taking it with me when we go to bulgaria because i've got to go interrailing afterwards. 2 months with no playing. Sad.

Okay, after college has finished I'm gonna get godly on the piano. Furrealz this time.
Anyone know of any pieces of similar difficulty to Moonlight Sonata? Preferably in an easy key.
YES, I SUCK.

Check out Chopin's prelude in e minor. It's quite simple but a great piece none the less.

I'm not a fan of own brand products, especially musical instruments. The other solution I have in mind is to just take a laptop to each gig, and take the audio output from there to an amp.

Ah, fair play. I don't really know, I don't particularly use the piano for gigs or anything...

What is the best piece of Piano Music that you have played, ever? I'm thinking of broadening my horizons musically, so I want to find some good piano pieces to play.
Play some Uematsuuuuu. Tifa's Theme, Aerith's Theme, J-E-N-O-V-A, One Winged Angel, Those Who Fight, To Zanarkand... srsly, his stuff is amazing. I've never played anything more unique than his piano pieces.
Small change got rained on with his own thirty-eight, and nobody flinched, down by the arcade.

Cheers man. I think I've given it a go before, but I'll try it again.
Also seconding the Uematsu. Some incredible music. Also Jaime, do you know of any good To Zanarkand transcriptions? I started learning it a while ago, but the one I had went horribly wrong after like the 20th bar, or something.
