My latest crayzee idea, that has come further than most:
You probably can't read the writing; it says:
Red = Strings
Grey = Tuners (at top), Bridge (at bottom)
Light Brown = Nut
Orangey Brown = Key planks
Brown = Main Body
Dark Brown = Bridge board for bridge
and string-through
Hammers on each key plank strike the string exactly at specific points producing the harmonic notes. These hammers are foldable so the player can choose which harmonic to play. For easier construction, the black and white keys are at the same height. Audio is picked up up through guitar pickups, to go to an amplifier for some cool sounds. Strings go through the string holes in the Bridge Board the key planks and through the body, so no special strings needed. Dampener and also controls not available on an acoustic piano such as volume, tone and effects are a possibility.
To clarify, I'm not even close to starting building it yet, but I just thought I'd see what ya think.
Also, I want to know, will the pickups work properly like that if they're humbuckers? I'm not sure. I would think probably, but it works best like that, otherwise the keys would be tiny!
And, those luthiers out there, what wood is easy to work with and also sounds good?
Well, just thought I'd share my thoughts with you!
