A film could be made about Madeleine McCann's disappearance after talks with a major entertainment company.
Her parents are considering giving permission for IMG to make a movie or documentary.
Their spokesman confirmed to Sky News Online that a meeting with the firm took place last month.
But he said Gerry and Kate McCann did not attend and stressed nothing has yet been agreed.
Clarence Mitchell said a film would only be considered if the McCanns believed it would help raise awareness of the case or help fund the private search for Madeleine.
IMG, the firm behind the award-winning drama-documentary Touching The Void, made the initial approach, it is thought.
The resulting meeting in mid-December discussed the possibility of making the story of four-year-old Madeleine into either a film or a TV drama.
Mr and Mrs McCann were aware of the meeting but did not attend in person.
Instead, Mr Mitchell and another representative of the McCanns met IMG at the firm's London offices.
The spokesman said: "We have only had one discussion with IMG. It may or may not happen.
"If we feel any particular proposal in the media has validity in helping us find Madeleine, we are happy to discuss it."
Mr Mitchell said it was just one of many approaches that have been made by media companies over the missing girl, who vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Portugal in May.
In a statement, Darlow Smithson Productions, a production company owned by IMG, said: "Darlow Smithson had a preliminary meeting with representatives of the McCanns about the possibility of an observational documentary following the ongoing search for Madeleine.
"Discussions are still at a very early stage and the issue of money has never been raised."
Fantastic. A film about Maddie McCann, another attention seeking plot by those completely barking parents. As if they want it to raise awareness about this case, they've said that hundreds of times so that they can get their faces back on the TV. I mean, they used money from one of the Madeleine charities to pay for their mortgage! I'm not saying that they were responsible for her disappearance (well, actually they were, but I won't go into that), I'm just saying that they've found a way to manipulate this situation to use it to benefit themselves. Quite sick really, maybe I'm overreacting, I don't know what everyone else thinks about it.

I saw this on an Evening Standard splash on the way home from work, it sounds like something the Daily Star would make up, then destroy for being that bit too moronic and unbelievable.
Can only hope this never, ever gets made.
Its a fascinating voyage of pain and despair that leaves you emotionally drained and satisfied, like fucking a burning dolphin.

Brewster my problem is if they werent such irresponsible parents they wouldnt have had their child snatched in the first place, and they are doing this for their own well being not their daughters if they gave the slightest of a fuck they wouldnt have left 3 children alone in a n aprtment by themselves to go have a meal regardless of checking every 20 minutes or whatever, THEY DISGUST ME

I feel - well, I FELT for them - for Madeleine having been abducted, however as I said before, they're using the situation to their advantage, to help themselves to the sympathy that people are offering, and as I also said before, they used the money from one of the Madeleine fundraisers to pay for their mortgage. It's stuff like that that makes me angry.

I'm not really a supporter of what her parents have done, after all, I'm like me and you, I'd prefer to have Madeliene returned safe and well.
But I think it needs to be pointed out that a film crew are following the McCann's around to help raise more awareness, and try and jog some more memories.
Think what you like about the parents, but once again, the media have blown this all out of proportion. Like said before, there's no money involved.

she hasnt been missing for a few months Yvonne. its a year in 5 months time.
also this isnt some sort of blockbuster with bruce willis comming in yippiekyeamuthfucker and saves with day. its a simple documentary where they will be talking to the people involed and a timeline of events.

I have to agree with James though, it is a huge media blow up, but it doesn't change my views about the McCanns.
And no, they haven't been going to work, because they've been going round grabbing our money instead. They still leave the twins alone in the house, even after what's happened. You'd think they'd at least have the sense to know that they made the mistake before, and they'd be very cautious not to make it again?

No it isnt she went missing in may so its a year in 5 months shes been missing 250 days. Im sorry but no matter how you dress this up, itas not needed, what use is a documentary actuallt going to do? suddenly find out whodunit? no they dont need more exposure everyone knows who maddie mccann is saying its to raise awareess in my opinion is some sort of stupid justification in trying to make them feel better for being terrible parents

Ah, I was counting from the end of this month, so I was adding four on to one, if that was to me 
And as James (Mystery) said, they don't know anything about the case! A few people were involved, they were basically a random guy in a villa in Portugal who didn't have anything to do with it and a stranger in Egypt!
There isn't exactly a lot to say about the case, it's still a mystery to the detectives. In fact the only piece of good evidence I've seen of what happened to her was the blood in their car 
And James, I didn't know Gerry had gone back to work, but fair enough if Kate hasn't. I know it's stressful for them but they just seem, from what we've seen of this whole story so far, to be a bit irresponsible. And now I'm going to get flooded with loads of stuff about how they have gone round looking for her but I've already said that a lot of the things they've done took place because they've taken advantage of the publicity they're getting.

Oh please. Grow up. I have never once said "you aren't entitled to an opinion" - which seems to become the motto of this website.
As my two cents goes, I don't think anyone has the right to slag off them, as no-one knows what actually happened. Except the people who took Madeleine.

James, all I'm going to say is, we're not slagging them off directly because of the kidnapping, it's because of their reaction to it, and the way they're using the media. Of course no-one knows what happened, but it's not like we're saying "haha Maddie got kidnapped" is it? I feel for them because of the abduction, and of course I hope she's found. I'm sure everyone does. I'm just pissed off because the McCanns have been abusing this situation.

Well that wasn't the most reliable piece of information, but I'm sure I've seen it somewhere. If they don't then meh, I'm wrong on that part, I guess.

Nobody knows the truth so who can really state the reasons behind the movie?
I dont know the in's and the out's of the story. I havent been following it as much as some. Apart from knowing that they have been acused at some point of being involved with her dissaperance in the first place. And I wouldnt rule that out totally. But the most simple explanation is that they are just sad, iresponsible parents who are desperate to get their daughter back. We just dont know.
But whatever the case, I feel a movie is the wrong thing to do. What will it actually achieve? It isnt going to change anything beneficial to the case considering how much coverage this story has had! It just all seems a bit...they are making money out of their daughter being missing.
Thats how it looks to me.
