Did a guitar cover of Sunburn yesterday

used the eBow to get it a bit like the Dundee version matt did using the fernandes sustainter

Again, recorded using garageband with a proper backing track

Using my Samick Forumla FA2
Effects: Marshall echohead, RAT, Boss DS-1, Boss CS-3, Digitech Whammy, eBow
Amp: Roland Cube

Any comments appreciated

You did an amazing job there. This takes the cake as one of the best covers I've come across on on here Stephen. Welcome back as well.

surely not my Supermassive black Hole cover!

I hate it - sounds really messy and un-pro

lol

the supermassive does sound pretty rough

when i play it normally just through the amp it does sound much better - for some reason, the Fuzz Factory sounded crap once i put it onto the computer

the sound when i play it straight through my amp is spot on with the live tone - i promise! It just really sounds horrible once recorded!

Computers are shit...
I believe you though, all of your covers sound great besides the Supermassive one. I guess you'd need an expert on recording like Jonny Greenwood to help you out there.
I miss my cover days, but people out here are crap. They don't appreciate Muse or Radiohead, so I quit. =

I never uploaded any of those here...
They're practically 3 years old, and I only use an acoustic now. Of course, I enjoy breaking out the old group to do 'Fake Plastic Trees' once in a while...

Wow. This is awesome. One of the best covers of the song I've heard. This and loloman on youtube.

But yours is fantastic. I never realised how much the eBow could sound like the sustainer.

Very great though. Very nice indeed.

thanks again
i love the eBow - for one string sustain, its spot on with the fernandes, and you could do volume swells etc. by moving it closer to teh pickup (not sure if you can do that withthe fernandes) and if you get the technique right, make it sound like its playing the notes in reverse

I love lolomans playing - he is an absolute legend, and i love those bluesy things he puts into his playing!

There's some top notch production there, the only criticism I can think of is that the chorus sounds a little muddy to me, backing off on the distortion might be an idea. It'd be nice to hear some vocals in there too.

cheers

you mean keep the tone of the first chorus for the whole song?

It does sound a little muddy, but I couldn't think of a way of adding more power for that fat chorus other than increasing the volume - all i could think of was cranking up the rat!

It's the second chorus where its worst, the last chorus sounds awesome, that one works.

(For adding more power you could use synths to add some extra subs though - something MCR *spits* did to the guitars on their last album to give them more beef)

Doesn't garage band let you write in midi or use VST synths?

i think so but I haven't experimented with it much

All i've done is recording, a bit of mixing and experimentation with guitar filters
