I think I'm gonna try to mod a Bomber-esque MIDI strip into my guitar. Can anybody give me a 1-10 "What the hell are you thinking you'll just break your guitar" rating?

EDIT: Of course I'll be getting the parts from Gazlang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbKh9vzEjlw&feature=channel_page

As far as I know, Gazlang does most of the wiring for the controller, and then provides wiring diagrams for the rest. If you know how to solder and route the space in your guitar, it'll be a piece of piss.

This site is pretty indispensible for the lesser skilled craftsmen such as myself. You've got everything there to get building a dream/knock off of many big name and obscure body shapes, and some great other materials and necks etc.

So I'm making a guitar. And I'm putting a lot of stuff in it. Killswitch, Fuzz Factory, MIDI Strip, (maybe) FSK-101 sustainer. The works. What I'm wondering is if it would be as easy it seems it would be to resolder the 9v battery used by the sustainer for powering the other electronic power-consuming parts of the guitar. I don't know anything about electronics so I'd need to know how exactly I would go about doing this, but it seems like I could just connect all three to the same battery. See, I'm looking into having some kind of rechargeable battery that would have an AC power input where the other jacks are to just kinda plug it in to charge it all up, then only unscrew the back when I need to replace the rechargeable battery.

Oh, also, would any of that screw with the sound of my Fuzz Factory?

I can't answer definitively (I'm sure someone else can though) but I would use a seperate battery for everything. I imagine either it just wouldn't work (either due to lack of voltage/current depending on how it's wired) or it would affect the sound/workings of one or all of the components. But you don't need to unscrew the body every time you need to change the battery, just buy one of the battery enclosure things and build them into the back of the body. Then you just need to unfasten it and change the battery, no screwdrivers needed.

Hm. Sure makes me want to skip the sustainer, then. I think I'd only really need to have the battery readily available for the MIDI strip, with the FF's ridiculous battery life and such.

Well if you're making it from scratch then why not just route out enough space for the three battery compartments. It's more difficult building it into an existing guitar, but making one from scratch it's easy. I know Hooglebug/Zooropa/Surfingsfun use them.

Just seems... inefficient. Something seems weird about it. I guess it means better sound for the fuzz and less exploding, so...

Why would it be inefficient? There's a reason pedals use 9 volt batteries, because they need them.

Robert- most pedal mods aren't very complicated at all. Most of the time it seems to come down to taking the circuit board out of the pedal, desoldering the pots (probably. You might be able to pull off getting them through the body while still on the board, depending on the pedal), sticking it into the guitar/bass, and cutting the wires off the jacks and wiring them between your output and your jack.

On a completely unrelated note!
Anybody have some good suggestions for finishes and coloring stuff etc. for a solid white guitar? I'm getting kind of frustrated with all the different sealers and fillers and colors and whatnot and would like a definitive list of the things you need to finish a guitar. Thanks.

Right, I don't have a guitar with a tremolo/vibrato style bridge, my dad has his Strat, but for ease of use I was wondering if anyone had any idea whether it would be possible to convert the bridge on one of these;

To one of these;

Anyone have any ideas whether it'd work?

I'm sure it would. Looks to me like it's a specially made Telecaster bridge with the slanted pickup space, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Does the Parker have as much space below the bridge as a normal telecaster?

There's a fair bit of space, but I'm not sure if there's as much as on the Tele guitars. Hmm. It's a project though, and I'm gonna have to try it

Can anyone help me find a carrier of black 3mm perspex/acrylic that will ship to the U.S.? I've been trying for a while now and I can't find anything. You get zero results on the US ebay site.

Heh, I love how I'm making every other post in this thread...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Alpha-Potentiometer-Pot-16mm-B5K-Linear-Taper_W0QQitemZ310170091723QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item48379400cb&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116#ht_500wt_1182

What exactly does "alpha" mean? Is that the brand? Or some type of potentiometer? I'm just about to buy these for my Fuzz Factory mod, figured I should check what that was.

I have a Kent Armstrong Motherbucker and Seymour Duncan Hot P90 to sell.

They have been wired into a guitar, but taken out again. The guitar wasnt really used, it was a project that never got finished so the pickups are basically as new. I was a bit reluctant to take it apart but I need the money.

They both come with original boxes and wiring instructions.

I was looking for about £35 for motherbucker and £50 for the hot P-90. Manson's are selling these for £59 and £85 respectively. P&P will be between £2 or £3 for each or I can combine if you would like both.

Email me lozbelllljb@gmail.com or PM me, but I might be slow to reply to PMs.

Gonna start work on a guitar from scratch soon, Custom body etc...

Looking forward too it. Since it's my first i'm not gonna put any effects in it. I don't think i'd want to do it anyway.

Once I get into it I'll probs start a new thread
