Wayne Rooney has been charged by the FA with use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language...
Really, nice to see the F.A. dealing with the important issues.
There are many documented times players have used foul language without punishment, including Steve G dropping the F-bomb on Talksport. 1 Rule for Utd...apparently, yeah.
Oh well, absolute horseshit.
I hope Rooney fucks off anything the F.A want to use him for, i.e. sponsorships, appearances etc. Hell I'd happily have him tell England to shove it sideways.
Especially when Essien has done this and didn't even see yellow...

And Wenger accuses f.a. of dodgy fixtures.
Who cares, Wayne swore!!!!!!!
Tldr?
F.A. Charge Rooney - reaction - What, fucking what?

The F.A are as thick as fuck, making an example of that is ridiculous, the crowd always swear, the managers swear, the players swear, I wouldn't be surprised if the refs swear too. It's part of the game (though unfortunate as it is, as thousands and thousands of kids watch it too) what are they gonna do? Impose a no speaking at all rule on everyone who goes to a match too? Ridiculous.
EDIT: Sam, he'll miss Fulham and Man City.

There's a difference between those things and what Rooney did though. When people swear in interviews it's usually just a slip. That's not the same as screaming it angrily into the camera. Then again, I didn't see the Gerrard thing, but I would guess that he didn't do the same as Rooney did. And before anyone says 'it was in the heat of the moment' - even when you're that fired up, you know what's appropriate and what's not.
In the case of Wenger's complaints about fixtures, he didn't directly accuse anyone about it, and he still admitted that despite playing on Sundays til the end of the season, the squad simply needs to perform if they want to win anything.
I think the ban's perfectly justified. He acted like a cunt and deserved a punishment for it. To be honest, I think players should be penalised for even swearing at refs, but that's just me.

2 match ban if he doesn't appeal.
Will be extended if appeal fails.
So Fulham and City.
If appeal fails, will still miss City.
BULLSHIT!!!
How is it different?
It's the use of offensive language.
Intent isn't mentioned. It's using the language. Under the letter of the law they should be charged.
Or Harry Redknapp, telling a SS interviewer to Fuck Off...not slip, still nothing.
He apologised, the club will have taken action, leave it be.

He apologised. That should just be the end of it. He accepted that he made a mistake, but no, the FA have to make an example out of it because of who he is and who he plays for, otherwise the rest of the league would be on their backs. The lack of consistency at the FA is shocking, as Tom says, one rule for one, one for another and no fan can deny that.
Rooney is a passionate player, yes he's a dick, that's because he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's the last of a dying breed in proper passionate players who are going missing because of the FA's nanny rules. If Rooney swearing makes him brilliant, let him call the ref a cunt a few more times.

Yeah, but it's common sense, come on. And I guess Redknapp was lucky to escape in that case. Deserved a ban too.
Either way, I'm just looking at this situation as an isolated incident, and I'm still saying Rooney deserved a punishment.
@James: An apology can be a pretty easy escape though. I'm not sure I agree with simply passing something off just because the culprit apologised for it. It'll probably be a warning for other players as well.

But it's the laws of the game, so you can't look at it as an isolated incident.
Laws have precedent which are supposed to be followed, here the precedent is they don't get punished, clear as day, people are not charged for this conduct for the way he acted.
There will be situations when they do fall foul of the rules, but clear as day, this situation does not.
Common sense would say, oh someone didn't get punished for shooting someone, oh someone didn't get punished for throwing darts at someone. But someone gets a 2 match ban for saying fucking when a camera has been shoved in his face...with an unnecessary pitch-side microphone on it...
Ergo
Assault with a dangerous weapon (granted not in a game...but within the F.A power of action)...in the eyes of the F.A. is less serious than swearing.
And that's using common sense...
And also, no it's not acceptable in many things....but with a minor case of the F-bomb, in the heat of the moment....it is clearly a proportionate reaction...he hardly did a Keane on Haaland.

By 'looking at it as an isolated incident', I just mean I personally think he deserved a ban for it. To me, doing something like that is deserving of a punishment. I don't care what the FA's rules are, either. I'm just saying if I had a choice, I'd ban him. If other people have done things like that in the past, they've deserved bans too.
I suppose the reasoning of the FA is probably that the shooting and the dart-throwing incidents were on the training grounds of the players' clubs, so it was the responsibility of both clubs to enact whatever punishment they saw fit, and that the Rooney thing was in a Premier League game, so it's their responsibility to do something about it. I'd agree with you on that one though, both Cole and Balotelli deserved lengthy bans.

Swearing's always going to be a part of the game. You wont find any ground where there isn't a chant that involves swearing. Hell, every time I see Arsenal I hear the Adebayor song (which to me is vulgar: "Adebayor, Adebayor, his dad washes Elephants, his mum is a whore") - will Arsenal be charged for that? Because I always recognise it when they're playing on Sky. Or a Watford, my home team, where every time an opposition player makes a mistake the fans shout in unity "You're shit!"(And thats in the family enclosure too).
Rooney was in the wrong, I think a fine is a fitting judgement.
EDIT: Also, I hate Rooney, don't get me wrong. I think he's a hot headed cunt. I just think banning him for two games is a but much.

Yeah, but fans aren't the professionals doing their jobs. It's not professional to swear, especially at a camera or at a referee. I guess I could pass off swearing on the pitch generally as an excusable thing to do, but if there's a direct intent involved then it deserves some form of punishment, in my eyes.

Yeah, that's true. A fine probably would've done the job. Although in fairness, he earns so much that a fine of £20k or whatever measly sum the FA usually makes it would be like knocking a few pennies out of his hand.

I don't see why Rooney deserves a 2 game ban. When I was watching the England-Wales game a while ago, Craig Bellamy yelled "Fuck off!" right at the ref and the cameras/sound equipment picked it up and I heard it. I haven't read a single thing about him being banned from anything. As much as I don't like to think that people get singled out, Rooney's completely getting held to a higher standard here. I guess it's the nature of being a superstar.
Im a reasonable man, get off my case
Congratulations

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has hit out at Wayne Rooney for the foul-mouthed rant that followed his hat-trick against West Ham and insisted that the Manchester United striker fully deserved his Football Association charge.
The FA announced on Monday that Rooney has been charged with "use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language" following his expletive-ridden celebration at West Ham on Saturday.
Rooney issued an apology after the win at Upton Park, but that may not have been enough to save him from a ban that could see him ruled out of United's home clash with Fulham this weekend as well as the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City in two weeks' time.
Redknapp joined the long line of pundits and ex-officials who condemned the rant, insisting that the 25-year-old deserved to be charged.
"I haven't heard what he said as I was driving back from Wigan but I've read what's been reported in the papers," Redknapp said at a press conference ahead of Spurs' game against Real Madrid.
"I don't know why he did that. I don't remember Bobby Charlton doing that when he used to smack goals into the top corner from 35 yards.
"Why do these young players have to be so angry with the world? I don't know why. They are getting hundreds of thousands of pounds a week.
"I respect him (Rooney) as a player but he is a silly boy for what he did and he shouldn't have done it."
Wow. Really, Redknapp? Reaaaaaally?

Right i've cooled down now, but i still think a 2 game ban is harsh, and that the FA are predominantly using the incident as an example.
