Arsenals back four on paper looked solid. 3 out of the 4 were regular starters. Messi destroyed them. Our attacking may not have been strong but our defence on paper was.
Vs Man United, you had 6 players back, your whole back four included, and yet he jumped higher than your centre back and scored a wonderful header.
As for him not scoring a header since, he's fucking tiny, it's a wonder how he managed to leap that high for the goal.
Messi produced pretty well against Man United, and although he didn't score against Chelsea, he tore up that pitch pretty well. 2 top teams with strong line ups there.
The four goals he scored against Arsenal were brilliant. Messi exploited our defence, like a good player does.
As for last night, every player has an off day every once in a while. Don't even bother telling me Ronaldo's never had an off day.
Take the pieces and build them skywards.

In reply to Sam's post: Well, he did get an assist. And he got pretty unlucky with several chances. Plus to be honest, regardless of what he produced, he was pretty spectacular. In a lot of his touches and passes he showed his quality.
And look at Messi's record against Real Madrid: he scored a hat-trick against them in 2007 (when he was 19). Scored against them in their 2-0 victory in 2008, and scored twice away in their 6-2 victory in the same season. Last season he scored away against them. This season he tore their defence open and made a few assists. Ronaldo's never scored against Barcelona. Okay, Messi's been in more Clįsicos than Ronaldo, but Ronaldo played against them several times for United. So your claim that Messi doesn't produce against top teams is completely invalid.
Plus, in the Champions League Final, regardless of where the other United players were, Messi got between arguably two of the best centre backs in the world (Vidic and Ferdinand) to lob a header over Van Der Sar.
Anyway, when you look at it, Messi's a much shorter player. He's not a target man in the air. But he's obviously proven his heading ability.
Small change got rained on with his own thirty-eight, and nobody flinched, down by the arcade.

It was a sweet header, but you can't really say he "out jumped two of the best centre backs in the world" or whatever.... cause no fucker was marking him.
I should rephrase. I shouldn't of said Messi can't produce against "good teams" i should of said he can't produce against "good defense's"(except for the header agianst Utd...but that was under different circumstanses) but i wouldn't say Madrid have got a good defense ....mabey on paper. Infact im not convinced they have a good team fullstop. Great on paper yeah....but where have they got in the Champions League recently?......no where. Get dumped out every year at the first stage.
Anyway, im getting board of Messi vs Ronaldo. Were not gonna be able to convince eachother.
Some think Messi is better. Some think Ronaldo is better. Im leaving it at that.

Messi is better off the ball.
Every player spends more time without the ball than with it.
What you do without the ball is more important.
Messi is a more decisive and complete player.
England is still the best league in my opinion too, but in other football cultures poor heading skills (when you're five foot five) do not invalidate that. And good ones aren't worth 30-odd million pounds.

He didn't out-jump Vidic and Ferdinand. But he got between them. And that's the whole magic of the goal - he evaded them perfectly. Quality centre backs are supposed to see the danger early, but they didn't because of his clever run. It was a perfectly planned and executed goal.

Yet again i disagree. I just think it was poor marking. Nothing to do with a "clever run" at all. He just jogged into postion. But whatever....im done.

But runs don't have to involve sprinting. They involve perception and vision. He didn't just happen to be in the right place at the right time. He saw the space and made it his. If it had happened simply by chance, it would be much easier to score against teams like that, would it not?

At the end of the day, im not saying it wasn't a good goal? I said that Ronaldo's was better against Roma, and that Ronaldo is better in the air than Messi, and one of the reasons why i think Ronaldo is a better player.

Ronaldo's 6 foot 1 , Messi is 5 foot 7 for fuck sake of course he's going to be better in the air
However the game is called FOOTball and there is no better player on the planet with the ball at his feet than Messi.

Ohhh ok. So we can just take heading out the game can we? The only thing Messi is better at than Ronaldo is dribbling and vision.

It's evident Messi doesn't need to be a wonderful header of the ball to get goals, seeing as he's got more than Ronaldo this season.
And I assume by 'dribbling' we mean general ball control, a key attribute for any forward, and by 'vision' we mean the mental awareness to pick out a pass, a cross, a run, etc. etc.... another key attribute.
I'd also argue that he's a better finisher and a better passer of the ball than Ronaldo. I'm sure most would agree, seeing as Barcelona's midfielders and forwards are the best passers of the ball in the world.

I wonder how many goals Ronaldo would get if he had Xavi and Iniesta putting it on a plate for him every game?
By vision, i would say he can play a better through ball than Ronaldo. To say he's a better crosser and makes better runs is just..........no.
A better finisher? meaning.....postioning, shots in the box, shots outside the box, heading, free kicks, penlties, goals with both feet etc etc........Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has Alonso, Kaka, Ozil, Di Maria, Gago or Granero to supply him things on a plate. It's not like there is no talent behind him either.
Messi does make better runs, on and off the ball, Ronaldo...and bare in mind he has a soft spot in my heart, utd fan, I'd take him back in an instant...I'd probably rather have him than Messi, is more pace onto balls in space and stepovers, he gets crowded out much more easily.
Messi can also use both feet, has exceptional positoning and con score from almost anywhere.
Ronaldo has that demonic free kick granted, but Beckham is more consistant with his free kicks and a more accurate crosser, yet he was never as complete a player.
Ronaldo is a legend, one of the best players currently, top 2/3. I would have him back at united in the drop of a hat, he's been nothing but polite about his development with us since he left and is convincing potugese players not to join city, what's not to love?
I just feel, as a complete player, messi does have the edge still. However, they're very, very close and i'd happily eat my words in a year and say Ronaldo has overtaken Messi.

Messi is the best in the world. But one thing's true, Messi has been playing with the same players for years, and they're great team players. Ronaldo was the key man in the best Man Utd of the last years and changed to a loveless Real Madrid to be the best man in there too. They're both pretty good, just let it go. You're all just defending your own interests, some because they love Read Madrid, some because they loved him at Man Utd, others just like Barcelona and hated him since United. Gee whiz.

Yes, but note he cost £7 million!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bung-tastic.
He couldn't even compete with conference players, he was truely, inmitigatingly awful.
