I really hope he sells Gerrard and buys someone better instead, and then makes Masch captain, that would be fucking epic.
I would like to keep Torres but I know that it seems unlikely, but hopefully we can bring in a capable striker to replace him, or we could just stick Kuyt up front and buy a decent winger.
Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Insua (we should have kept Aurelio though), Kuyt, Aquillani, Mascherano, Maxi/Babel, ????????????????

On David Silva, I think he's a bit overrated, he doesn't even make the Spain team, fair enough, Spain are fucking good, but you would have thought that a team with unlimited money would want to buy the very best.

...

Right,

Whilst Gerrard is getting past his prime now, he is still an exceptional leader, and should stay for at least another season.
Mascherano should NEVER be captain, for starters he argues with officials far too much, which normally ends up in him getting an unecessary yellow card, which then means he can't take any risks anymore in case he gets sent off, restricting his ability in the holding role. If anyone had to be sold, I'd say it should be him, we should get around £20-25m for him. I can't see Hodgson playing 2 holding midfielders, so Gerrard and Aquilani can play in the middle, and another signing should be made for that position, then we've got them and Lucas (who's convinced me enough that he's improving now).

Secondly, Kuyt should never in a million years play upfront, he's a hard worker, but he has no end product as a striker, on the wing he's fine, playing him or Maxi on the right works fine in my opinion. As for the left side, well i'd hoped we might make a move for Silva, although I doubt we could afford him, maybe Mata instead, or Özil. I'm still divided as to whether Riera should stay, whilst obviously Benitez was his problem, he shouldn't have spoken out like that half way through the season... Plus he can be decidely average at times.

I can see Torres staying, personally. He recently spoke out and said that Benitez leaving was 'the best for everyone', and I reckon people like Gerrard and Maxi will be able to convince him to stay. If Gerrard was sold, however, I can see Torres going too, which would, lets face it, be disasterous.

Finally, whilst I agree Aurelio should have had another season at least, he is getting on a bit now, and Insua is promising, young, and most importantly, home grown (yes i'm fully aware he's argentinian, but he's been at Liverpool long enough to count as home grown now).

Priority no.1 for me is to secure Torres and Gerrard, then look seriously into signing another striker. After that, remove the deadwood to finance a move for another midfielder (central if Masch is sold, if not, then left sided.)

/essay.

edit: We've both missed Benayoun here, and rightfully so, I think he only shone as one of our better players last season because we were all very average. I wouldn't really mind if he went, especially for over £5m.

The thing that you're missing is our huge debts.
We NEED to sell our best players, even if they want to stay, because we really need the money. I could easily see us getting £40million for Gerrard, which is definitely worth it, and possibly more for Torres.
We've got to face the fact that we're not going to win anything for a few years, and just try and buil for the future. I kind of agree with you on Lucas improving, but I still don't think that he's good enough to play game after game.
Last season, Torres was injured half the time and Gerrard was shit, if we could bring in proper replacements then we could well do better than last season, maybe even top 4 (unlikely), which would be more than good enough for me considering the current situation.

We could convince Gerrard to stay, but I don't think that we should, Mascherano and Aquillani are both better players, certainly on last season's performances.

I forgot about Benayoun, but I don't think he really offers much in our system to be honest, he can take it past players, but we're much more suited to passing it past teams.

Roy Hodgson has been named Liverpool's new manager after signing a three-year contract with the Anfield club.

Hodgson will oversee the club's first day of pre-season training on Thursday before being unveiled to the media.

"This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on Britain's most successful football club," Hodgson told the club's website.

I don't really understand all the talk about selling Gerrard and Torres. Gerrard would never leave for £40 million. What have you been smoking? With his age and his form, I very much doubt any club would offer that much. In the end, only like 10 clubs in Europe would be able to buy Torres or Gerrard, and at the moment I don't see any team besides Man Utd or Real Madrid that would be interested in buying Torres for the money he's worth. And I doubt they'd make an offer for him, so I don't think their will is reason enough to worry about them leaving or staying. I'm betting they'll both stay.

I can't see Torres or Gerrard leaving after their poor World Cup performances.

If, for example, Real Madrid wanted Torres, they'd make an offer which would, in part, reflect the World Cup. Liverpool won't settle for that and won't sell for anything less than 40 million I'd imagine... and after his World Cup performance (so far), I'd say most teams wouldn't want to pay that much.

So that rumour about Gerrard is apparently not true. His wife doesn't actually have a sister, I heard. And it was also originally seen on a Man United supporters' website, which would suggest it was all bollocks.

UGH.

I'm all for technology but where will it end? Next people will want it for offsides, fouls, touchline decisions etc.

Just do what they did in the Europa league last season, stick another official behind the line, or at the very most, a replay system. None of this hawk-eye stuff which will cost so much to implement.

Mm, it would eventually ruin the flow of the game. They could just do what they do in tennis with Hawk Eye though. Each team gets a certain amount of calls where the ref looks at the replay. Iunno.

The thing is, how long does it take Sky to grab a replay of something? Literally less than 10 seconds. That's all that is needed, a simple yes or no from the fourth official.

I think i would rather have the use of video replay than those 2 touchline refs, there is a possibility that the refs could pick up on absolutely everything like shirt tugging and minor things, it would fuck the flow up more. I think vid for goal decisions like whether it crossed the line and maybe just leave it alone. Posibly a challenge set up for offsides but i don't like the idea all that much. I think they should look at other areas first.

Didn't any of you see Europa League last season? They were pretty much worthless and errors kept coming through. There are several ways to implement the technology, they just need to study the options a little. And does it cost too much to implement? Oh, sorry, then... I guess maybe the overrated price for tickets, advertising and sponsors are not good enough for FIFA that make millions and millions of profit every year?

Yeah, read about that but hadn't seen it. To be fair, he does look really embarrassed and can't wait to get it off. Not the greatest place to pull something like that, in front of thousands of people.

I still don't get why Barcelona even want to sign Fabregas. At Arsenal, he is such an important player, and probably their most valuable. I know to Barcelona he means a lot, having been there as a kid, but Arsenal are going to want (quite rightly) a very large amount of money for him, probably in the region of £40-50million. So Barcelona can justify spending that amount of money on what will essentially be a squad player? I suppose with Yaya Toure leaving, it is possible they'll run a three man midfield of Xavi holding and Fabregas and Iniesta ahead (drooool...) but that just seems like overkill. If he was going for say £15-20million, then it would be a different story, but double that for what could be a bench player is a bit much. He should stay at Arsenal.
