Still get a result? Scrape results more like. You were lucky to get a draw with Sunderland and you looked pretty shaky against Bolton too. Yeah, we rely on Torres.. but when you have the best striker in the world, yeah you're going to rely on him aren't you? We don't have the kinda money to spend on players like United do. (Your front two cost like 25m and 30m respectively). We have Torres at 25m, then what... N'Gog? Thats 1m then. In fact, look at yours and then our midfields..

We had Aurelio (free), Lucas (6m), Benayoun (6m), Kuyt (10m) and Mascherano (18m). What do we have in reserve? Riera (8m), Gerrard and Spearing (came through the system), Plessis? (no idea, barely anything though) and El Zhar (again, not sure, but surely not much more than a few mil)

United? Valencia (16m), Carrick (18m), Scholes came through the system, Giggs (no idea), then there's Nani (14m). With Scholes and Giggs pretty much part time players, you've got Anderson (18m) and Fletcher (system). I think it's fair to say that your midfield (that you had to buy) cost a wee bit more than ours.

And if you actually look at that, how poor are most of those players? Your only stand out ones are Fletcher, Scholes and Giggs. The one's Ferguson actually bought have been pretty piss poor. How many times have I heard United fans moan about Nani, or Anderson. And i think its pretty widely acknowledged that Carrick is hardly worth 18mil.

So yeah you can moan about being crippled by debt all you want, but you have enough money to buy reserve players who cost significantly more than what we can afford to pay. I'm not arguing with the fact that you also have a very strong squad, you do.. much stronger than ours. But hey, we still beat you on Sunday.

I'm sorry, it annoys me when people moan that Benitez hasn't spent wisely (whcih I agree on, with a few players), but then look at United.. that list is hardly flattering either, isn't it.

tl;dr

In summary - if they're not flattering, explain the 3 league titles, a league cup, two Champions League finals, record breaking defence. That's just in the past three years.

What do Liverpool have to show?

It's very easy to pick out players who are shit, but in truth, the prizes speak for themselves. Which in recent times, Liverpool have none.

Edit: If we're being fickle about results here, we drew with Sunderland. You lost to Sunderland. Go figure.

Its only reasonable, Liverpool lost at being a visitor at Sunderland, MU ALMOST lost at Sunderland at OLD TRAFFORD. You drew because of Sunderland's OWN GOAL.

Get Real!

And yet you lost to your own fucking beach ball, you're comical. Really, for all you're amazing team, you lack consistency...even last year, draws, undid it for you, scrape a win if you have to, it's a mark of champions. Speaking of which when's the last time you won the league title...oh and as i forgot to mention it at the end of the season....that fucking flag, au reviour cantona, come back when you've won 18. You stupid scouse bastards.
A side point torres is class, gerrard....is alright, but a wanker who should currently atleast have a community order against him...but somehow was found innocent, and carragher is dirty but gets the job done....but very inconsistant. Also, you wanted to bring up the purchases, when did you last field a starting without atleast one british player in it, i dont recall the last time united did it, but i'm sure you have, take out gerrard, carragher, johnson...and spearing?? and who of note do you have? Noone you're then foreign and shit, atleast if we take out rooney, carrick and neville, we can put in other established or progressing home grown players like scholes, giggs, fletcher, welbeck, evans, gibson & oshea (both RoI but youth).
You beat us twice last year, i hate it when you do, but if we win the league dispite it by all means do it again this year, i'd take the league over your scalp any day. We have better strength in depth,
oh and on the carrick point, he's slumped but used to be superb and for 18m i'd rather have him than that shite, dirty, foul, horrible little gobshite mascherano
get real

My point about squad depth was proven tonight. Despite an iffy spell in the first half, played well. Owen's goal was pure class, can't wait for Obertan to be a first team regular.

How much Benitez has spent in 5 years

That's almost 40m on players a season. That doesn't exactly scream good value for money for Liverpool, if you think about it, because after 5-6 years, with that amount spent, your team should be first class.

Haha, I genuinely thought Lucas should have played tonight.

Still, terrible ref, terrible play by our reserves, none of them had the game in mind, they all went out to try and impress. Degen needs to learn to pass.

On the plus side, Insua's goal was quality, and Aquilani was fairly impressive, some good touches and fairly good shots on target.

Only the Carling Cup at the end of the day, a "big 4" team shouldn't be concerned about that...

Unfortunately that is the case with the top four.
I support Arsenal and I think every trophy is worth going all out for. Don't get me wrong, I like watching the youth of our team play, but to a point it gets silly. Especially if it's a big game, like it has been the past 2 seasons.
Outclassed by tottenham in a semi final last year, who knows wha tis year. Wenger needs to concenrate on all trophies, no matter if it's a 'big' one or not.

Oh yeah, I mean, as a Liverpool fan, this season is so far looking just about the FA cup unless we get our act together, unfortunately.

I think with regards to youth teams, it's almost an unwritten rule that the big 4 put a youth side out in this competition, so even if tonight was a big game, its not like it was big guns vs youth team.

That said, although it's good that big teams play youth sides out gives the lower sides a chance to contest a trophy, but at the same time I think every team should see every trophy as important, I mean, it is still silverware after all.

Still, Arsenal played well, promising bunch of youngsters there, although I was more concerned with watching Aquilani's every move toward the end of the game.

Merdia and Insua's goals were both top quality though.

^ Why the big laugh? I'm not saying he was biased, for starters Skrtel should have been sent off and a penalty given when he floored... Can't remember his name now, and he generally missed a fair few free kicks for both sides. He had no effect on the final score though, just an observation.

Not so funny now you've realized I'm not trying to use it as an excuse, is it?
