Good luck to Germany indeed. If Portugal happen to win 2nd place, I'd rather play against Russia in the play-off than against Germany.

Russia and Portugal will not play against each other. Our teams have very high rating and we will be in first pot. You had to know it.

EDIT: I hope for Ukraine or Ireland

EDIT 2: Come on Croatia, I still believe in you (hope Andorra will win against Ukraine)

EDIT 3: Shame on England. It was a contractual match...

Not exactly, Alexander. If Ukraine doesn't win against Andorra, Croatia will finish 2nd and Ukraine 3rd. If that happens, Croatia has a higher rating than we, therefore:

1st pot
Russia
Greece
France
Croatia

2nd pot
Portugal
Ireland
Bosnia
Slovenia

I just got a sent a really good poem about Liverpool fans. Sums up why I dislike them so much.

There's a place we know where Scousers go
and it's always lots of fun
you can have a laugh at many things
if you're ready with a pun

You can mock the dead of Munich
be glad that George Best's dead
you can sing a dozen funny songs
of Duncan Edward's head

You can hope that Gary Neville
gets cancer and he dies
throw ammonia at Whiteside
and hope it blinds his eyes

You can even stone an ambulance
where Alan Smith is lying
even if it doesn't overturn
it's bound to be fun trying

You can talk of many pleasant things
with your like-minded mates
but you'll pause to show such reverence
as you pass the Shankly Gates

Where every single Scouser
who ever passed away
must be honoured and respected
have their own special day

Cos Scousers are a special breed
their hearts upon their sleeve
they ask the country to join in
and watch them as they grieve

They celebrate and they respect
each Scouser who departs
they ask that we can shed their tears
and nurse their broken hearts

Yet mention dead of anyone
who doesn't fit their own
they laugh out loud there is no shred
of honour ever shown

They laugh at young men dying
on runways filled with ice
and celebrate that Munich day
and never would think twice

of mocking Harold Shipman's dead
that lived within our city
these wallowers in plastic grief
the masters of self pity

They wave their tin foil silverware
and throw cups filled with shiiit
to shower on opposing fans
but never will admit

the murder of their very own
their much loved Stanley knives
the night they killed Juventus fans
a tragic waste of lives

It's "justice for the 96"
but never 39
It's grieving for 'poor' Michael Shields
but not for Heysel dying

It's always everybody else
they're not the ones to blame
it was Chelsea, Yorkshire coppers
it's always been the same

We've all shed tears as 96
lay dying on the floor
but our sympathy has long since died
we'll grieve with you no more.

our sympathy has long since died
we'll grieve with you no more.

I'd like to complain and rant on about how the goal shouldn't have stood and how, quite frankly, that moron kid should be shot, but really, we were terrible. I think Rafa either has to spend big over Christmas, or he should be sacked.

The problem is, if, by some miracle, we beat Lyon on tuesday, then United next weekend, everyone will just think its all fine again.

Also, that poem is horrible and while unfortunately true about some fans, it doesn't describe us all.

^tbh, it's really your owners. they're shit, they give Liverpool no money at all. Rafa is one of the best managers around.

In other news, Saints are no longer at the bottom of the table yay!!

That's why i'm giving him till after Christmas, we still have money from the Alonso sale, besides, with the money he did have, he bought all the wrong players (Lucas, Spearing, Aurelio), and then instead of strengthening the side, he just replaced players. Buying a right back for another right back isn't strengthening at all. We should have kept Arbeloa and Alonso (I know he wanted to leave), and bought Aquliani and Johnson, not sell 2 and buy 2.

Now that we have this new sponsor for next season, and hopefully a new owner of at least 50% of the club, we should have a lot more money to spend over summer, so with a new manager, and some fresh faces, things can change.

I think its the tactics too, Benitez is a little naive when it comes to the Premiership, he totally underestimates the quality in some teams, I mean, after the Leeds carling cup game, he seemed to think playing a bunch of reserves and scraping a 1-0 win showed we had sufficient strength and depth in the squad.

Even against Chelsea 2 weeks ago, Playing Gerrard in a central attacking mid role was a terrible choice because Chelsea had a defensive mid out, and Essien stuck to him like glue, which shut off 90% of Torres' supply, rendering him totally ineffective.

Last season after we thumped United and Real Madrid, we started playing attractive, attacking football, moving the 2 central midfielders up to the centre, instead of having them play just ahead of the defenders, and sticking Gerrard right behind Torres in support, and it worked so well. This season we've just gone back to playing 2 DM's, and one AMC, leaving far too much room in the middle, and since Masch is a ball winner, not an exceptional passer, and Lucas is, well, Lucas, the ball's just aren't getting played up anymore, and we're suffering as a result. He's still trying to play a formation which suits Alonso perfectly, without Alonso.

/mega rant

Technically Reina should have kept his eye on the ball. It was always going to his left so why was he watching the balloon. The ball is white, not red.

Liverpool were pretty shocking to be honest though, Sunderland were brilliant. Gordon was class, pulled off some brilliant saves.

As for the United game, Giggs was fantastic again today. Berbatov played well too, worked his socks off and should have had two goals if it wasn't for Owen and Jaaskelainen. Hoping to get Rooney back for next week. We should have killed Notlob off, we had so many chances, Owen especially.

I know that United sometimes get a generous amount of stoppage time at the end of a match, but quite a lot of it can be accounted for during the course of the sxecond half. I'd like to know how the stoppage time in the Liverpool v Sunderland match added up to 7 minutes.

Anyway, from watching MotD, Sunderland played really well, with Bent and Jones working really well together, and Liverpool were terrible. 3 centre backs? It doesn't work in England

Yeah, as soon as I saw the team list I knew it wasn't going to go well, although at first I assumed it would be Johnson on the left, Agger and Skrtel in the middle, Carragher on the right, then Aurelio left mid, Babel right mid, Lucas and Spearing in the centre, and Benayoun playing just behind Kuyt, which makes far more sense.

Well, apart from starting Spearing over Mascherano, that makes no sense whatsoever.

In the end though, like I said, can't stick the blame on the goal, since we did play terrible, and Sunderland just played well. Hopefully they can keep it up and challenge for a Europa league spot, be nice to see some different teams in there.

edit: @ James, the shot was going straight for him though, and he was positioned to catch it easily, so had it not hit the balloon it would have been a simple save. No keeper in the world would react and shift positions quick enough to save after it took the deflection.

I still don't get why both Lucas and Spearing were playing. Spearing was shit - why wasn't Mascherano in the starting 11? How come we didn't see Riera, but we saw Voronin? The same Voronin who hasn't scored in over a year. We have no depth and from what I've read, we won't be spending big in the summer unless we get a new owner. *sigh*

It would help if you actually had money, the only way you could buy players was if you sold one and was the only reason why you sold Alonso. Anyway, I'd say it was a ridiculous decision to let Alonso leave, regardless of whether he wanted to leave or not. Johnson can be dody at right back and replacing Alonso with Aquliani who still isn't fit nearly 3 months into the season is just pure stupidity.

Anyway, Palace got a decent draw today against a good Cardiff side. Just a shame that Cardiff have made claims there was racist abuse from one of our players and have tried to take the attention away from what was a good result for us. If there was racist abuse today then they should name and shame the player, but I'm sure it's bullshit and they're just making it up.

Oh yeah I agree, selling Alonso was a terrible decision, but you can't exactly force him to stay there, he handed in an official transfer request, which i'm pretty sure means we have to put him up for sale, otherwise he'd have just left and we'd have got nothing for him.

There should be a lot more money available next season, what with this new sponsorship deal, allegedly giving us 80m, plus if the Arab Prince buys half the club, that should get more, however I refuse to jump on the Liverpool fan philosophy of "next season will be our season", because at the end of the day, its not having money, its what you do with it, and if Rafa's still in charge I get the feeling he'll just spend it on maybe 1 quality player, then a bunch of Lucas's.

Speaking of money, I want to know what Birmingham are going to do with their 40m transfer budget!

The real question to the whole debate is not whether the goal should stand, but whether the beach ball was actually paid for, taking into account the price (reduced in the sale), the colour (big and red - like a magpie to silver) and the location (liverpool). So thats a no then. Thievin scouse c###s.
