^ hahaha class. And yeah owens looking good. Berba has been alright, not playing badly, few good shots and great touch and retention. Scholes has been irratic with his passing but alright. Tosic looks quite handy, if abit hit and miss. Nani is still nani, he scored in the first game, but that was down to a beautiful pass by rooney, for a winger his crossing has been dire, he's been one of the most obvious poor performers, which worries me, whereas rooney is unsurprisingly the best so far, which makes me happy. Friendlies dont matter much but they give a glimpse.

Yeah, if friendlies mattered, every Sheff Utd fan would be digging Blackwell his grave. Conceding 3 to Sheffield FC... Sure, we won 4-3, in the end. Just. But Jeeesus, we're not looking good.

I watched again the game between Liverpool and Rapid, and really no offence, but they do suck.
It's so stupid because your midfield centrer is one of the best in the world, you have Torres which is one of the best strikers in the world and your defence is good, but still, no fucking creativity.
You have no players that can finish a game by themselves, like Ribery or Silva, and it's stupid because you could have bought them.

I believe that all the big Premiership teams got weak this summer, except City, and with some strengthening Liverpool could have been favourites. Glen Johnson is good, but not enough.

Uh, what?

You do realise that there were, at the most, 3 or 4 first team players playing in that game at a time. The rest were reserves. Gerrard only played one half, and Torres wasn't even on the bench.

Seriously, the line up against Vienna was :

Diego Cavalieri
Emiliano Insua
Jamie Carragher
Daniel Sanchez Ayala
Philipp Degen
Ryan Babel
Steven Gerrard
Damien Plessis
Nabil El Zhar
Krisztian Nemeth
Andriy Voronin

Compare that with what I would deem to be our strongest line up:

Jose Reina
Fabio Aurelio
Daniel Agger
Jamie Carragher
Glen Johnson
Javier Mascherano
Xabi Alonso
Albert Riera
Dirk Kuyt
Steven Gerrard
Fernando Torres

Mascherano and Kuyt were the only other players out of that line up to be used in the second half, so why not check things up before you start criticizing.

All we need is decent cover for Torres in case of injury, because if we have to rely on Vorinin, we aren't going to score many. At all.

I was just about to make the exact same post. What do you expect from reserves? The pre-season games really mean nothing if you ask me, they're just training matches.

Not just reserves, the game just reminded me of the team. I watched them in the last season too, and that's what I'm talking about.
Riera and Kuyt aren't good enough for a team to win the Premiership.

Kuyt is a good player, he just does it all in the background. He did an insane amount of work on the right last season, he was just outshone by Benayoun because Yossi scored goals.

It'd be nice to get someone better on the left, say, Silva. Riera was a bit quiet last season, but Babel plays there too, so in those 2 positions, we have 4 more than able players, who practically did the job for us last season, and, with a bit of training, will actually do it this season.

That's what has to be done when you don't have a ridiculously large amount of money to be spending on the world's top quality players.
Besides, I'd rather sit back and say yeah, those are our players, we took them when they weren't very big, and turned them into stars.

Lucas will be massive, mark my words.

Ok I don't believe that bit myself.

Also, I hope you watched the Champions League games last season? Clearly we were doing something better than Real
[Yeah, I had to get that in too]

Don't deny it, there is a reason that the last premiership you won was in 1989-1990. It looks like your not ambitious enough to win anything. You have a chance this year, there are a lot of transeferable good players in the market, and your still not buying a major reinforcement. Don't lie to yourself that your squad is quality enough.

Sure, I agree that Real Madrid had a ridicules season. I don't deny that. But that's why we bought all these players.
I know that not every club has the amount of money to spend, but you could have buy players like Ribery, Silva, Villa, and even now Real are selling many quality players like Huntelaar, Robben and Van der Vaart for a funny price.
It just looks like you just accept the mediocrity, and not looking for getting better.
I'm not saying that to offence Liverpool, I'm just sorry for the club.

We're not buying major players because we can't afford them, it's really quite simple. To buy someone really good, we'd have to sell.. and right now, the players we'd have to sell are too valuable to the club to be released. It's that simple, it's not that we're seeking mediocrity, we just don't have the money to strengthen the squad to a size like Man United have.

Oh yeah, I agree with you there, we've never really looked like winning it since then, but if you look at last season, the main reason we didn't win was because of squad depth, we didn't lose against any of the other "big 4", recording comfortable wins over United and Chelsea, and... interesting draws against Arsenal, yet, we threw points away against sides like Stoke, Fulham, West Ham all because we were missing, well, mainly because we were missing Torres and Gerrard. Where as teams like United and Chelsea have the depth to cover with more quality players if any of their first 11 get injured, and were able to grind out wins, even if it was with a bit of luck.

The only reason Chelsea weren't contending for the title was because Scolari had a terrible run there. I believe the squad we have now just needs that cover upfront, and we are more than capable of challenging again. The 3 players you mentioned there, Ribery would cost us upward of 40M at this rate, last I heard Silva and Villa were going for 15m each, and there have been rumours flying around for a while now that Silva could be on his way to us. But other than that, we do have world class players, they just aren't as well known as the bigger names.

And I have no idea why rafa still has faith in Lucas, apparently, he has potential, although it must be invisible.

Mind you, he had an alright season toward the end last year.

Our next friendly kicks off soon, looks like we have a stronger side out this time, watching it live on the clubs website. Yay.

Well. Naughton and Walker have gone. Good riddance! Finally got some fucking money to bring in our own players. Evans looks set to sign for us from Man City it seems. He seems like a decent buy. Walker back on loan for the season. Killa set to sign new contact. Only concern now is over our keepers. Haber doesn't seem up to it for a season from what I can gather. Hey ho. We'll have to wait and see. Another striker would do, too, and getting rid of Sharp. I'll pay you to take him from us!

Liverpool won't win the title. No-one has really added too much to their squad except Man City. I expect Man City to place easily in the top 10, but a top 4 placing is such a big ask.

1. Man Utd
2. Chelsea
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal

Burnley, Birmingham and Sunderland to go down.
