Dream Theater is one of my favorites, at the moment probably the best actually I just discovered this band in January thru Train of Thought's 'In The Name Of God' and now I simply have to listen to some DT every day. They fuckin kick ass! So do Muse but right now DT kick more

yeah they're incredible musicians. I especially like watching their live stuff. the drummer is craaazy, well they all are. and petrucci makes funny faces when hes solo-ing But they're not one of those bands that I can't survive if i don't listen to them every day. on the other hand, Muse IS one of those bands...maybe the only one actually

They are amazing musicians- so much so that it actually depresses me to watch them because I realize how much I just suck compared to them- ha! But either way I agree- although I'm not exactly too into the singer's voice. Matt's is better fo' sho'.

Haven't listened to much of it, but I'm told they're not too bad. Aren't they a christian rock band or something?

Train of Thought - that's the same title as a song off a-ha's first album from 1985!

Jesus!
Did I just say that?
Or did I just think it?
Was I talking?
*whispers* Did they hear me?

To the people above who are not keen on James Labrie's voice, try and hear Octavarium, the new album. He sings like I've never heard him sing before on this album. Absolutely brilliant, as is the whole album. Currently my fave album.

they are a concept band. if you know what that is. listen to their cds through tracks 1 - end and you can feel what the album is all about. just like Floyd.

dream theater are one of the most talented bands i have ever seen, all the members are outstanding musicians, John Petrucci is one of the fastest technical players around, yet can still slow it right down into more melodic playing, and Mike Portnoy is an insane drummer, try and find a dt song played in straight 4/4 timing ;) my freind was telling me that supposedly in one song he has managed to add in a drum line in morse code - not quite sure how it works out though or if it is actually true. the bassist is a completel machine, he tends to get left unnoticed in dt, but if you watch the dvd you can see he follows along with almost all of the lead guitar playing, on a bass..., the singer and keyboard player, while i dont know the ins and outs of how their chosen 'instrumet' goes, they both sound amazing to me

check out the album Metropolis Pt 2 : scenes from a memory, its a concept album all based around a murder, and is basically awesome, and has some of the most beautiful songs and also some of the most technically impressive.

the live album (scenes from new york) is amazing too, they basically play all of scenes from a memory and some other songs, and it is basically amazing, the dvd is awesome too, just watching them all play is humbling, petrucci shreds away and looks like he puts no effort in to it...

I LOVE Dream Theater. John Petrucci is just...AMAZING. I'm seeing them in a week live!!! I can't wait. I love their new cd too. Can't help but noticing all the Muse influences on it...."Never Enough"=Hysteria???? The only complaint i have of Octavarium is the lack of guitar solos. I love the keyboard work, but i could use some more guitar. Anyways, i'm so excited about next thursday!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean. The album is brilliant. In my opinion Train of Thought was a Petrucci showcase. Octavarium is more of a showcase for James Labrie. There is some superb guitar playing in never enough and in the title track though. I'm seeing them in October at Hammersmith and I can't wait.

Ohh well it was an interesting listen ive also got awake dosnt really do it for me as a band...

I taught Dream Theater everything they know. i rule so hard.

Scenes From A Memory is without a doubt their best album.

Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence is another great release from them, its a double album, worthy of checking out.

Train Of Thought is good, but too much metal, too less keyboards and melody.

Octavarium i haven't heard yet, i really need to listen to it, but i lack the money to go out and buy it.

If you like dream theater, but dont listen to Yes, then you should listen to Yes.

My band just released a new promo!!! Check it out!!! Were called Pillage and Plunder:
