The comparison is exceptionally lazy. Muse and Radiohead haven't sounded anything alike since Showbiz, and even then it was only really the vocals, and even then they're still not all that similar.

People who say they sound the same don't listen to enough music.

i think people should be careful of what they're saying about radiohead, thom (as any radiohead fan will know) is an outspoken person (think of the invitation from blair???) im sure if he thought muse were copying him he would have said it, but as one of the leading musical talents out there i'm sure he knows that that are very disimilar from muse, and besides what the fuck does he care if muse are copying them, radiohead are massive they always have the credit for pioneering that genre of music and so it will be of no disadvantage to them; Thom is not pig-headed!!!!!!

Also Matt does have very similar vocals to Thom but Matt is a much better singer, better range.

thom is a far better singer, matt has moments where he sounds like he is whinging, thom never does his singing is flawless and im yes has a better range but that doesnt make him a better singer, thom is flawless becuase he knows what notes he can hit without sounding like he is having is balls eaten

Matt is a much better live singer though, these days Thom Yorke is just making unintelligible sounds into the mic. Saw them do Just at V2006 and it was wince-worthy. His vocals on the CD are astounding but at V he was just horrible

yeah aleximo seroiusly iv seen both muse and radiohead live multiple times and matt is much better, not only a better range but also matt can hit vibratos much more punctually and definate than Thom.

Even on CD I'd say Matt is better. Thom's voice suits the music (as does Matt's) but Matt is undoubtedly a better singer specifically.

ergh .. I hate matt's voice so much sometimes.
I can't understand how someone can say that his wailing is superior to Thom either on CD or live.

Just my opinion though. I find thom's voice so melodic, but also so intense, and he carries off so much emotion

I wonder what Thom Yorke thinks of Muse in 2011. He probably thinks "The Darkness is superior".

Not really. Thom can hit higher notes and his voice is softer whereas Matt's can sound a bit strained.

Thom has a bigger singing range than Matt.

Really? Bumping a 5 year old Muse vs Radiohead thread? I thought that we'd got past this silliness and just agreed that the two bands were different and shouldn't really be compared.

Thom has always been a great singer. Well, the first album was a bit sketchy as he was a bit too petulant teenager for my liking. But even then I'm having to scrape the barrel to find flaws. He's just got a great voice, and he knows when to be powerful and when less is more.

Matt's vocals are one of the worst things about Muse these days. Everything is dramatic and over the top with absurd comedy theatricality. He sounds like Tom Jones after a couple of drinks covering Celine Dion on Karaoke.

I don't like the over the top either but it doesn't overshadow his previous efforts, and I don't think it's on every track (Resistance, MK Ultra, Exogenesis, etc to name some recent material).

I think with the apparent 'scaling down' of the next album, those vocals will be gone (maybe).

I'd have to give it to Matt, even though I absolutely love Thom's voice in some songs.

If Matt cuts down on the dramatic superhero vocals he'll be my preferred singer, but Thom also has a magical voice that suits Radiohead's and his own music just as well as Matt's voice suits most Muse songs. I will say, however, that Thom's voice is consistently better than Matt's. Even on Radiohead songs I don't love, Thom's voice is almost definitely not the problem, whereas certain Muse songs might suffer a little because of Matt's vocal delivery. But when Matt's vocals are good, they're fucking good.

I wonder what we'll be saying on this topic 5 years from now, after 1 -2 more Muse albums. Anyway, I think Thom has more emotion in his voice. Although I could say that Matt is technically a better singer. It's hard comparing the too, I mean, Muse has Cave and Showbiz.

Right now though, i do not like Matt's hero vocals.
