I ordered a washing machine and they're delivering it today and it's stressing me the fuck out. I don't like strangers in my flat ugh.

What?

Of course it all went fine and they were really nice and only went to my bathroom and installed the thing and left.

I don't like strangers coming into my house either. Last time a guy came to our house to work on fixing our satellite dish, he came inside, sat on my couch, and started hitting on me. Kept asking me who I hang out with and all that. It's one of those moments that you really don't know what to say. You can't be rude because he's the one who's supposed to be helping you. I didn't want him to throw the dish off my roof

I am a member of this Scout and Guide group at the uni I went to which I stayed a member of after graduation because I was on the national committee and because I was in the area, still involved in Scouting and because I still had some friends who went so it was a nice way of keeping in touch. Anyway, I'm organising this trip to Slovenia and I just can't be bothered to get up and go on the organisation - it's pretty much there but there are just a few more things I need to do and frankly I just can't be bothered. I don't care about this group of people anymore and it's a lot of effort to go to just for them... I guess I'm feeling a bit un-appreciated but also a bit of an outsider with them - I've not been able to go to a lot of stuff this year so I don't feel so involved. I have just moved on from this group quicker than I thought I would. I also got roped into organising a large camp next year for the national society and frankly I don't have any get up and go to do that either... man.

Can't you say now you don't want to do the trip next year and want to leave the group? It's probably too late for the Slovenia trip, but you shouldn't commit to something that is a year away and you don't want to do. They have enough time to find someone else to do it. You could just say you don't have time to organise all of it.

My vent:
I'm starting an internship in two weeks. Last night, I was already so nervous about it I couldn't sleep. There's no reason to be nervous at all, I won't be the only intern there, I've already met my supervisor twice and he's incredibly nice, I know what I'm going to do there and I can do it. And I'm still nervous. I hate starting new things...

^You will learn the most when you get out of your comfort zone and try something new (in your case; an internship)! Show interest, ask questions to your colleagues and fellow-students (and not only work-related questions), try to blend in with the group and be open-minded. Just think it's gonna be fun (and it will be!).

My vent: Why is there still no Victoria's secret shop in the Netherlands. Online shopping in the US is a nightmare, shipping costs 27 dollars, and increases with the amount of products you order. Plus when my package arrives I need to pay another customs charge.....
Even via amazon they can't ship it to the Netherlands. Ahhhhhh.

Nah, Slovenia will be fine - I'm just being lazy, it should go off without a hitch now. I guess the thing is with the other camp is that it's on a national level rather than the club level (with lots of clubs from different cities making up the national club if that makes sense). So I would be working with a completely different group of people and I wouldn't need to be involved with my club (so, I can leave it at the end of the year like I plan to do anyway) but I just know how much work one of these camps is as I've organised one before and I'm just not feeling jazzed about it.

Anyway, on your problem I would say don't worry. You're not expected to be amazing at it straight away so you can make mistakes and take time to learn new stuff - you are an intern after all! Also, make an effort to meet people in the department and building as you never know who will remember you. You might get lucky and make such a good impression that you get employed once you're finished at school or a connection you make could lead to a job elsewhere! Basically, it's big and scary but if you grab it by the horns you've got so much to gain from it so go for it and do fantastically!

Thanks girls . I know it'll all work out in the end, I'll just be very happy when the first two weeks are over. The building I'm working in is an absolute maze, so I'll have no problem meeting new people, I'll have to ask them for directions back to my workplace when I get lost.

@ Sofie: noooo that's ridiculous! Such a huge brand and so much trouble to get it in the Netherlands! What about the German or British or French Amazons? There must be more people having the same problem, maybe there is a forum where people have found a solution?

If you don't need the internet to study, disconnect it, that usually works for me. Good luck!

Had my university entrance exam today, which is something I studied for last two months. I have no idea if it went well or not. Waiting over a month for results will be painful.

I've written my dissertation in English, which is my second language, so I want it to be proofread by a native speaker to correct spelling and grammar. I've searched the internet, prices would be around 500 euros for the complete dissertation, which is way too much. Then I asked the uni language centre: they calculated total costs to be around 2500 euros. What the fuck?! I thought 500 was outrageous, how could they expect a student with a useless history degree to pay 2500 to correct a few spelling mistakes?!

I anyone has any suggestions, they're welcome.

Doos, you could break it down and send parts of your dissertation to different people? If it's only checking the spelling then you don't need the person reading it to read from the start. I'm not a native speaker but if you want to send me a part to read I'd be happy to help
