Yes, I know, that was my point, that hounds are a better way of hunting than using traps.

I think the fact that traps are kinder or crueler then hunting is arguable, but what i can see is that most traps that kill foxes are set by farmers. and the fox usually only gets caught in the trap if it is on the farm trying to kill a lamb or something. my point being that you can maybe justify killing a fox in a trap, if the only purpose you've layed the trap is that it will only catch a fox that is about to kill a lamb or some other animal on the farm. But going into the woods and hunting down a fox that may never kill a lamb in it's life is morally alot worse, that's like killing people because it's possible they might kill someone one day.

^^ I recognise an English law principle over here!
Actually I'm against any forms of hunting. I have witnessed one (without hounds though) and it's the most real thing I saw of all my life. It is absolutely disgusting and coward too...

They shouldn't be doing either. Both techniques still count as fox hunting.

Placing traps should be a last resort, where attempts to more-adequately protect the vulnerable livestock have already failed.

Its going to continue in this country though, no one will stop it, it's long established tradition. But they changed the old system to one that leaves the foxes in a worse position imo ... madness.

oh i completely agree. i'm only saying it because so many pro fox hunters use the fact that farmers lay traps to kill foxes as a excuse for hunting.

I don't think we're gonna get many pro-hunters on this debate. Musefans in general seem to be quite young and open-minded, can you imagine a group of fox-hunters listening to muse/

In the 1800's foxes were actually hunted to extintion in the U.K, so we had to import them from france.

Actually that's a commonly exaggerated misconception, as i posted earlier :
Quote
possibly. but they are villanised (is that a word?) by alot of farmers. the actual amount they cost the farmers from killing livestock is actually very small. They also kill rabbits which eat wheat and grain, which actually saves the farmers lots of money.

no i want all animals to dissapear. but thats purely hypothetical and wont ever happen. the scale of animal abuse is shocking and i just dont see how we should have the rights to them.

phew.

sorry i thought that was what you meant, but from the way you phrased it it made it sound abit like you actually wanted them to be extinct

A big problem to cruelty to all humans and animals in the world is ignorance. Most people don't know or don't care at all for anything outside their lives.

Right, this is wrong I think, but here we have seal hunting (by here I mean far away in the North) which, I don't want to say it's worse, but seal are in danger, because of the glaciers that are melting, the water is heating, and now there's still people hunting them, this is just so wrong....

I think lots of people detest hunting without understanding it at all. Fox hunting is a good way of killing the old and weak foxes, as the young and healthy escape. As far as I know hunts were called upon to target a particular fox which has been killing chickens or causing problems for a farmer.

It is just such a non-issue for me when there are so many important things like clean hospitals and declining education standards, it seems ridiculous to have protests over how we kill pests. To use the parliament act aswell is just madness!

Then there are the people who treat it as a class war thing. Someone even stated that point expicitly on this very thread: "but i disagree with the whole upper class attitude". I don't fox hunt but if some upper class people choose to hunt in a traditional way and make a day of riding through the countryside and chasing the trail of a fox then so be it. Just imagine it was the other way round, it isn't acceptable to discriminate against the rich just because they choose to "have a shot of sherry".

So it is totally about class warfare for you colin? Aren't even slightly ashamed to admit that? It is like a posh person saying well I don't mind football but I don't want any northeners playing, I mean they don't talk proper. Shame on you!
