If these guys are as good as ML has hyped them as, they must be pretty godly. I will be downloading a few of their songs to see if i like them. From what ive heard so far they sound like a softer, trippier version of muse.

which is good.

Nah, a lot of their stuff is heavier than Muse. They have some pretty badass metal breakdowns.

...And then I said; Oatmeal, are you CRAZY?!

The 2000s stuff is overrated and isn't as good as people here would have you believe from what I've been listening to. It's the 90s stuff that's brilliant. But having said that, I've also only just started listening to them in the past week or so. But still, I'm loving exploring their 90s albums more than I am their more recent stuff.

Tyrone, have you listened to Nil Recurring?

since we're all picking out our favorite albums, i'll give my current ranking of the albums:

1- In Absentia (2002)
2- Stupid Dream (1999)
3- Fear of a Blank Planet/Nil Recurring (2007)
4- Signify (1996)
5- Deadwing (2005)
6- The Incident (2009)
7- Recordings (2001)
8- Lightbulb Sun (2000)
9- Up The Downstair (1993)
10- The Sky Moves Sideways (1995)
11- On The Sunday of Life (1991)

The only album that isn't neck and neck with the others is OTSOL.

Track One is super-disjointed. Shame. The first section is brilliant. Section 2 and 3 really aren't.

Well Steven said it himself in a recent interview: "I think the second record is a little bit more experimental and a little more dark, perhaps. More demanding."

As we know Track One lands on the second record, so "super-disjointed" is possibly what he was going for in this particular piece.

Yeah, but it still has the mood they had in the 90's... it is, indeed, an awesome album

I've only heard In Absentia and The Sky Moves Sideways and it seems we already disagree, not that In Absentia is bad, I just prefer TSMS

1- Lightbulb Sun
2- Deadwing
3 -In Absentia
4 - Stupid Dream
5 - Fear of a Blank Planet/Nil Recurring
6- The Incident

Take the pieces and build them skywards.

Am I missing something by preferring the 90s stuff so far? I might change my mind once I hear the other albums, but still, the albums and songs I've heard make the 90s albums seem superior.

You're not missing anything, I prefer TSMS to some later stuff. The Incident, for example. They're just quite different in terms of sound, so it's fair enough that some people would prefer one "era" to another. You should listen to Fear Of A Blank Planet and Deadwing though.

1. In Absentia
2. The Incident
3. Deadwing
4. Fear of a Blank Planet
5. Lightbulb Sun
6. Signify
7. Stupid Dream
8. The Sky Moves Sideways
9. Up the Downstair
10. On the Sunday of Life

My order changed all the time. Usually the latest four are towards the top, but I've had both Lightbulb Sun and Signify stealing the top spot at times before as well. I love Phase 1 and 2 of The Sky Moves Sideways, but I think the album falls a bit flat. Stupid Dream has a lot of great songs, but also has more not so great songs than some of the other albums.
