Oh, Laura, I didn't mean that THAT way. Classical music isn't only seen inaccessible because of the length of each piece. No, the most proving point is, that classical music is complex, like Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2, there are many melodical lines, AND melodical themes... It's hard to explain. Matt said that classical music (and vocal-less music in general) really is the healthiest for your imagination... And rap is simply talking...

Pop music makes up for the lack of depth in instrumentation by adding meaningful lyrics. There are people who love rap as much as I love rock and classical. I find classical much more emotionally stirring, but different kinds of music work for different people.

I haven't read the whole discussion but I think age should play no role at muselive. I like the band since I was about 14 or 15, and my opinion towards Muse hasn't changed since that time =)

Im 15 at school and I'm the only person in my year who REALLY likes muse. A few of my mates like them, partly becasause I've forced them to :P But no-one has all the albums and stuff.

Although apperently loads of people in my mates school love muse... which makes me slightly jealous...

And well pray that theres no God to punish us...

Muse - Wembley - 17th June - AMAZING!

O2 12 Nov gig was good despite passing out :P

Wembley 2010 - best gig of my life so far!

Reading Festival 2011 - possibly even better despite getting appropriately mashe

I've just realised that I've been a Muse fan for seven years but yeah, like a lot of people in here, I was the only person who liked Muse when I discovered them at the age of thirtheen, times have changed now, they are more present in medias and quite everyone knows them...so yes, I've lost the exclusivity lol

Anyway, they deserve their succes even though I find quite annoying that some young fans(not all young fans of course)give Muse a bad reputation (Mathew get naked and all that stuff). I reckon it's the negative side of celebrity...

I've always had people give strange looks/laugh at me whenever I say that Muse is my favourite band. Then again most of them are either musically uninformed or the stuck up pretentious type who think that anything made after the 70's in not considered to be real music. And, of course, none of them have heard more than 1 or 2 radio-friendly song.

I don't listen to those people much.

im a junior and usually try to hide that im obsessed with muse mostly because people would say that im emo or think the world is about to end but really i know deep down inside (like all musers) that they are missing out because muse haters really are just close-minded or afraid to take the time to realise what matt's saying

i only know one other kid in my school who loves Muse the way i do, he saw them when he was 14 in 2004 at Madison Square Garden during the Absolution tour. he was surprised to find that i love Muse because so many people where i live don't, and it sucks balls.

i can really careless, i know in my mind i'm listening to an awesome band. my other friend likes Muse too but not as much. but she says they're amazing live so it's a plus.

I know one other person who likes Muse, but he only has the last three albums and doesn't like BH&R except for KOC, he's not mad about them but he likes them. He's not in my school though, he lives down the road from me.

I don't discuss music with the other kids at my school, so they don't know I like Muse. I don't bother talking about music with them because all they listen to is cheesy trance on their phones, so they're not going to care about other music.

To answer that question wether A is smarter than B because A listens to European music while B listens to hip-hop, lets look at the majority. I can tell you for a fact that around 90% of teenagers who's music of choice is hip-hop, is not as educated/smart as the person who likes European music or maybe even classical music. I believe that is a true fact.

For a fact? Prove it.

Sure, it takes a certain amount of effort to find non-mainstream music - indie, foreign, classical, etc, but that doesn't make you smarter or better for putting in the effort. Most people are perfectly happy with what's on the radio, and that's nice for them. Different is different, it's neither inferior nor superior - you can't go around claiming to be better or more intelligent than other people just because you like different music.
Quote
Bellamyli :
Thank you, Colin, I agree with your point. I think it's biologically proved, because those heavy beats damage or even destroy brain cells... Moreover, classical music is far too complicated to be understood by people not as educated as those with healthy brain cells.

Classical music is only seen as inaccessible because a single piece lasts much longer than a pop song. To get the benefit of classical music, you have to listen to the whole piece or suite so that you can hear the motifs evolving and the larger themes coming through. Patience ≠ education or intelligence, though there could well be a correlation.

As for music harming the brain, I think you've got it confused - headbanging does destroy brain cells (not 'heavy beats', which are found in all kinds of music) but you would need to do an AWFUL lot of it to become noticeably less intelligent than average!

headbanging kills brain cells?. so your saying chris is dumb (intelligent wise). well i mean after all these years hes known for headbanging ALOT. and hes been doing it hardcore since muse started. hes killes ALOT of brain cells lol.

Luckily a lot of people at my school like Muse. At least I think so. Sometimes people just say they like them when they've only heard like the first minute of Starlight. The band that I'm in loves to cover Muse, and all my friends except for maybe one love Muse.

Muse too popular here (but they're getting there), I know a few people that like Muse, most of them I converted but there are a few that have discovered them without my help.
Seem to only know about the singles though.
I'm the biggest Muse fan I know though.
