Nah, a GOOD tube amp will sound good at low volume as well. My amp's cleans shine on low volume and there's no solidstate amp that can get close. Also, my amp's lead channel is brutal, havent heard anything like it before. Such a highgain overdrive..
Getting a tube amp is a win-win situation, even on low volumes. Cranking the amp will obviously make it sound better!

So what amp do you have? Just interested.

if you want moore ad slash tones you will need a valve amp really, they just sound far better. especially as both guitarists use hardly any fx.
Fallout 2
Fender Strats
Coffee

I have an ENGL Screamer

Ooooh nice, during my 2 hour hardcore valve amp researchingness I heard alot of good things about that one.
And apparently the DSL401 has major reliability issues, why does their have to be a drawback with everything!

How could you afford one of them??

DSL401 and reliability issues? That sucks man :/ They are really good amps. I quite like DSLs because they have a "neutral" tone if you know what I mean. Most decent marshall amps have that neutral tone and their classic overdrive which is has nice mids.
Well I just had to buy an ENGL Screamer because they sound great, I had quite some money to spend on an amp, I could get a marshall halfstack, Vox AC30 with the blue alnico speakers, even a Mesa and some other amps. I decided to get the ENGL because of its better sound quality. I mean.. its like tone heaven; Nice sparkly cleans with a lot of headroom and a crunch/lead channel that blows away most amps. I've never experienced such a high gain amp, it had a little more gain than Mesa's and Peavey 6505's even!
I'm so glad I bought it. Now I'm saving up for a '57 reissue strat, Eric Johnson strat or Custom Shop strat.. Not sure which I prefer yet

Ok now i'm thinking the Laney VC30 is great. Only problem is that GAK has three listed:
VC30 112
VC30 210
VC30 212
Whats the difference? I mean I can afford any of them, just don't wanna get the wrong one :s

Ok I'll explain
112 means 1x 12" speaker
210 means 2x 10" speaker
212 means 2x 12" speaker
In terms of sound quality, they are all equal (if they use the same speaker models). In terms of total sound output, the most amount of speakers is best because they make more air vibrate and thus create a larger "wall" or sound. It makes your combo sound more full

Hey, Anyone know how the 'Vox AD100VT' sounds? good amp? soundwise/ampwise?
Nov. 1st - M.E.N Arena

AD100VT, why not get a tube amp for that money? ADVTs and Roland Cubes are good solidstate amps, but if you have money for tube amps you should definitely go tube... Just really depends onyour budget though.

Looking at forums and reviews, seems like most people complain about DSL401 being way too hot. Anyone here experienced such problems?

I have a DSL401 and trust me...it does not have a neutral sound lol. If your going for a neutral sound then try the fender hot rod deluxe.

Hows the reliability of your DSL401 holding out?

I've played one, and most marshall amps DO sound neutral. That's because they offer a good tonal base to expand on. It probably has to do with the fact that marshall amps were widely used in the past, that has shaped our tonal definitions I think. Fender amps do not sound neutral in any way because their cleans are radically different and have a unique voicing.
Marshall cleans however, are very neutral and can be shaped to fit nearly any style. Neutral is not a denigrating word, it's a definition as to how the amp is voiced. Marshalls can be used from blues to metal because of that voicing.

I would go tubes anyday; so a Vox AC30 or Laney VC30, definitely not a ADVT

Do the Laney's have a good OD channel?

Well the Laney has a marshall-esque overdrive but it's a bit different. I liked it. It's not very high gain so if you want ultra lead sound, you would definitely need an overdrive pedal to drive the OD channel even more. All in all, the OD is very comparable to marshall OD.

Cool, I reckon i'll go for that then. I've been suffering my Marshall MG for far too long.
Thanks for your help and stuff.

Hello guys,
I have been learning acoustic guitar for around 6 months now and have been using a second hand F310 I bought on ebay years ago.
Anyway, I've decided I need a new one. I've had a look on the internet but I don't really know what to get and am a bit embarrassed about going into a shop without any real idea as to what I want.
I don't really want to be spending over Ł200.
Has anyone got any suggestions or recommendations, please?
Cheers.
