But it can be removed from the Desktop ... right click on your desktop and click on "Customise desktop", or something like that. I can't remember.

Take a screen shot (should have a dedicated button on your keyboard), paste it into Paint, and save it as a png, upload it to an image hosting service (eg Imageshack) and post a link to it here.

Sorry, I am completely crap at computers and need to be nannied through this. If I press the "print screen" button nothing happens, what am I doing wrong?

Hmm...nothing as far as I know. Just press print screen, then in paint ctrl+v just as if you were copy and pasting something. That's how it works for me, anyway!
EDIT: For those of you who are feeling a bit low, why not have a good laugh at my desktop.
(Yes, that is Windows ME! One day I will persuade my parents that it is worth upgrading, or even getting a new computer. ("But it's only seven years old! In my day....."))

have what you want people to see
press prtscr button, or print screen
go into paint
paste
save it
upload it
post it

Bugger it, I can't get it to work - how do you get into Paint for heavens sake? Anyway, this is the pic that's my desktop (Me with Pedro Moustache for Chris Scrapbook) Just imagine the icons...

You should be able to find it like this:
Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint
