The Arctic Monkeys won't win. Not a chance. And I doubt Yorke will. Muse probably won't either (although they should, obviously), but they have more of a chance than those two.

Yea, i can see what ure saying, but i think Thom, as a solo artist, is new. The Eraser is very different from the Radiohead sound, whereas Muse cannot really be considered new artists, and, in my opinion, i like to see new artists winning the award.
I can't see any real basis behind all this monkey-hating though! lol. i wouldnt call myself their greatest fan, but they do have a very distinctive style, and i like it! *holds shield up to block incoming barrage of monkey-hating responses*

poor selection really. muse, monkeys, yorke and editors too big too win it, guillemots and hot chip are good but not good enough, and the rest...well theyre trying to be too clever picking all these random albums that arnt actually that mind-blowing. i still cant beleive anthony and the johnsons won it last year

Anywho I think Thom might actually win since they kinda embarrassed themselves by not giving it to either OK Computer or Kid A and they might see this as the chance to redeem themselves.
I doubt the Monkeys will win, too obvious.

Guillemots will win, mark my words. Album of the year.
Muse are a little too big for a Mercury I think; they tend to favour breaking acts that stray from the norm.

No no, nothing wrong with being big, good on 'em, just that the Mercury Prize is often seen as a helping hand to breaking artists... The 20K prize would probably be wasted on Muse...

I jst don't see the arctic monkeys as real good music. They're like a....a...a guilty pleasure! there we go, a guilty pleasure. and their stuff isn't very well produced whearas if you look at Muse's first album it is well produced.
....plus the Arctic Monkeys look emo...

Muse won't win, although they should, the judges are probably too snobby. Mercury isn't about new music, its about the best British and Irish album to be released in the last year, so whether the act is new or not doesn't matter. This is long over due for muse, they should have got it for OoS, but not to say BH&R isn't deserved! But there is hope, Franz won two years ago so sometimes they do go for a popular artist!

We all know muse are worthy. But if I was a band member I'd like for me to win. So i hope they do but who cares if they dont we know they're the best on the list.

I am so glad I am not the only person who doesnt like the arctic monkeys. I just...dont get them at all, that accent is so flaunted its just unlistenable (sorry if i offend anyone there..) and i just dont think their music is that good....perhaps if they hadnt have been hyped like they were, I just dislike them in every sense :P
I'd like to see muse to win, but i dunno...perhaps the guillemots will win..

...by that I mean, I think the muse album DESERVES to win no doubt - one of my fave ever albums, but like has been said, they dont always go for the 'obvious' choice
