Not punkish!! gay! I don't like the filler on Francis the Mute, but Cassandra kicks ass. Greatest song ever written. EVER!

I also love Con Safo(its the last part of Cygnus and Miranda)

Anyway... new album in August?? excellent....

Amazing band! Absolutely insane, but also genius (similar to muse in that sense)...can't wait for the new album!!!

What are people's fave tracks? At the moment mine are "Drunkship of Lanterns" and "Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt" from Deloused...the track names alone are great

I love Take The Veil and Roulette Dares from Deloused. And also the title track from Frances The Mute. Insanity.

Where should one start with The Mars Volta?
I've only heard Televators, and i'm guessing that isn't an accurate portrayal of their music.

Their new album, Amputechture, has.....interesting lyrics. One song even reuses some of the lyrics of A Plague Upon Your Hissing, and the 'choral' vocal section from the Summer Demo version of Eunuch Provocateur.

The new album "Amputechture" has been leaked!

Im downloading it now, i've heard about half of it, and it sounds like it could have all been on Frances the Mute. Theres not much of a new style, its just a bit more insane (if thats possible)...
So far i'm liking Frances better, but this is a good album.

Here is the tracklist:
Vicarious Atonement
Tetragrammaton
Vermicide
Meccamputechture
Asilos Magdalena
Viscera Eyes
Day Of The Baphomets
El Ciervo Vulnerado

I can't get away with The Mars Volta at all. They put me to sleep. Nearly all their material sounds like what would have been a great three minute At The Drive In song, stretched out to ten minutes of boredom.

They have the occasional flash of brilliance, and that's why I find it so disappointing that most of their repetoire bores me so.

Yeah I've heard it, and no, it's really not.

I've got their albums, and I do think they're decent, but for the most part they're vastly overrated and have a tendancy to bore.

how many times have you heard it?

When I first heard it I thought it was a big mess that sounded like a heap of random shit. Though a good mess.

But now I know pretty much every word and note played and it is all pure genius. It sounds random, but its not. I wish muse would do a song like it. As with Deloused, Frances is a concept album and when you learn the story behind the album it makes it a lot better too.

Too bad the new album doesnt have a song like Cassandra. The closest is Tetragrammaton but its nowhere near as good. And as for ATD-I, Mars Volta makes them sound like a school band.

I've heard it lots of times. I'm not in the habit of listening to something once and deciding it's rubbish. And I'm into a lot of stuff that is a lot less accessible than TMV (check my myspace to see what bands i'm into - quite varied). I just don't get much enjoyment out of listening to them. It feels like a chore, and music should never be a chore, it should be a joy.

At The Drive In were so energetic and just got to the point and made quality tunes in the process. That's why they'll always be better in my eyes.

High hopes for new album, just heard the first song, sounds more mature than anything they've ever done.

Specially loved the song "Tetragrammaton".
