im not exactly sure what its about. two options im debating are love or drugs.
drugs > love. at first i thought it was love but now im pretty sure its about needing a fix. i mean keep that in mind and read the lyrics again...ok now that youve read it what to you think? also at muse.mu i was watching a radio interview and the guy asked at the end of the interview "quickly before we play hysteria, what is it about." matt answered "well ya kno a song"
normally i would think that he was just rushed and yeh its a song your averge song about love for someone and what love does to you
but then with me thinking about the drugs i was like mb he just didnt want to say that on the air. i mean when asked if you take drugs (and you do) youre gonna have an awkward response...
so thats my confusion

Drugs does make a lot of sense, but so does love. Then came the video and I started wondering if it was about the sexual cravings of a pyschopath... Damn video-makers making it more confusing... I still go for drugs. I mean soooo many songs are about drugs (Under The Bridge, Perfect Day, that Dido one with the line "I will be your safety"). Or maybe masturbation. Like Teenage Kicks. Pft, who knows.

I think it is about love.. because of the video and all. but maby they want you to think that, and maby there is a hidden message in the lyrics... so... maby it IS about drugs or sex. to think it's about love is the most logical thought to think i guess.

i figured you knew the lyrics, but if someone didnt kno them by heart or didnt to refer back to it just incase i thought it might be convienient *shrugs* and when you say "its about something he wants badly but cant have" that could be drugs.

saw this program on the box ages ago where muse talked you through all there videos (cos videos is whats important to the pop industry ;-)). basically he said he wanted some sort of narrative to do with the song. and he said "the songs about wanting something SOOOOOOOOOO bad that you can't have". so i guess that clears it.
and cos the narratives to do with prossies and the like, im guessing its about having a freakish obsession with someone and wanting the physical side of love ;)

I don't think it's about drug becasue the only drugs matt has done (apparently) are weed and shrooms. natural things.
And they're easy and cheap to get hold of so why would he crave them so much? Addictions of that magnitude (in the song) normally follow the use of harder drugs.
I dunno. Is it really that easy to get that wound up over some pot?

It always makes me think of humanity's destructiveness. I mean, a lot of Absolution seems to have some kind of political context, and Hysteria can easily fit in...as a species we're so demanding, so grasping.
