well at least they are in full production for Versus XIII now, which I've waited for 3 frikin years as of now
I've waited like 5 years since they first announced it. Just keeps getting put back.
And I think I'm gonna give XIII-2 a miss I've decided. I just find the combat so dull and hearing they haven't changed much means I know I will not like this game. Such a bad idea giving bosses millions of HP because the fights drag on for aggggeeees. Some like this but it's just crap. A fight in FF 13 goes as follows:
Paradigm Shift - Buff your team
Paradigm Shift- Debuff Boss
Paradigm Shift - Attack Boss
Paradigm Shift- Heal team
And repeat for half an hour........
That's why I'm really excited for FF Versus because the combat looks amazing. Plus there are 3rd person shooter elements and also Vehicles and the story looks great. Just a shame I will be 50 by the time it is released.

I thought Versus looked great until I heard it had combat similar to Kingdom Hearts and then I let out a defeated sigh.
It's incredible to think how much I loved Final Fantasy games, and how far the series has fallen post-IX. I'm going to buy XIII-2; I buy every Final Fantasy. And I didn't hate XIII. But I'm not expecting great things.
All I want is for them to hold their hands up, admit that all these new changes are shit, and go back to making a game with characters, a story that is interesting, a FUCKING world map, and an old school battle system.
I was playing IV on the DS the other day and it's embarrassing how much better it is than any of the recent games.

^I find KH's combat really good, especially in the later games (KH2 and BBS). I think 13 Versus will be awesome.
I bought FF13 at launch price and haven't gone past the 2nd or 3rd boss. I don't even remember. It was not interesting at all and I had no motivation to continue. The FF13-2 combat was fun in the demo. I liked the pace a lot more, that could've also been because I wasn't that far in 13 though.
I definitely agree on the older games being better though, I just picked up a DS recently and FF3 is really good.

It takes like ten hours or something to unlock all of the fighting options in XIII, but XIII-2 starts with it unlocked (I think). So if you liked the battle system in the demo, that's what XIII ends up like later on.

Looks like I'm FINALLY going to complete Final Fantasy XIII sometime in the next week or so. I ended up getting this far on my previous Xbox before I ended up having to create a new profile. Just in time for XIII-2, heh.

You know, maybe I'm softening in my old age, or perhaps I'm just not far enough into it to be bored, but I'm rather enjoying FFXIII-2. It feels a lot more like a Final Fantasy than XIII did. The battle system is still a little too automatic, and the story is at best mind boggling, but it does have the feel of a Final Fantasy game so far.

I enjoyed it more than XIII based solely on the demo. Problem is I hear it's too short/easy. So I'm gonna wait a bit before I buy it.

I'm like ten hours into it and it seems so much better than XIII. I thought that only having two characters would annoy me (I always preferred a bigger cast like in VI or VII) but it's actually given more of an opportunity to get to know them rather than just having half a dozen faces with no personalities.
I find a lot of the time travel aspects fascinating, especially once the game opens up a bit more. Minor spoilers in case people haven't got here: I like the idea of the parallel timelines. Rather than just going backwards and forwards, the idea of going to the same place but in a timeline created from a different past is a really interesting idea. Swapping between two places that have evolved from different timelines so everybody has different memories to their parallel selves, it's an interesting mechanic, and I hope they get more use out of it as the game goes on.
Beyond all that it's nice just having like towns and people to talk to and stuff. And a (what I assume is the) villain who is interesting so far and who I want to see more of.

Well as predicted I backtracked on what I said and bought this game (just can't resist a new FF game) and I'm glad I did.
It is sooooooo much better than 13. I hated Lightning and Snow as main characters they were just boring so what do they do this game? Hardly put them in it for most of it- perfect! Noel is a much more interesting character to play as. The story is infinitely better than 13's and I really love the time travel mechanic and it feels very Chrono Trigger which is one of my all time favourite games. Plus they actually have a proper villain in this game and establish them from the beginning and build his character not just meet them a second before the final battle.
Having said that the battle system is still incredibly wank. The battles are long and tedious and there was one point when I had to fight to the top of this tower and It took 2 hours because of the battles and I very nearly just gave up on it.
But overall a very much improved game and Square showing that they still can do good story's if they put in a bit of effort.

Just finished 13-2 and the ending was just meh. They're trying to milk the series for as much as they can and just set it up for 13-3.
Anyway gonna play FF 9 again, now THATS a game.

Is XIII-2 worth getting, it's super cheap on shopto.net? £11.86 for the limited edition (saving £48.13) and £8 for the regular. The limited edition seems like too much of a steal to pass on.

PC re-release has been confirmed now but at least for the start, it will only be available on Square Enix online store and not on Steam.
I'm disappointed about that but I'll still get it for sure.
