I subjected poor Ethan to this yesterday. I hadn't heard this in about 12 years, having forgotten it had even existed. It's horrifying. I want to forget it again.
This is 'No Way, No Way' by Vanilla, a dreadful Barnet-based girl band who released this pile in 1998. It's an awful song about being 'bought with one drink', based musically on 'Mah Na Mah Na', most famous for its usage in the Muppets.
I pitch the question to you ML-ers, how serious do you think they were with this song? I just put a numerical scale, because I couldn't be bothered to write five witty... witticisms.
(I could put something really funny and intelligent here, but that would just be showing off.)

Oh, fuck you. I didn't think I'd ever have to hear this ever ever again. You've ruined that.
One good thing did come of this though...

If it was released now it wouldn't be serious, but in 1998 it probably didn't even stand out that much between all the other girlband/boyband/toybox type music. Music like this.
And gah I can't even watch my own video. It's probably worse because I still remember liking it.

I recall a blissful time about 6 minutes ago where I had never heard such a song and times were good. Now, however, I am distraught.

You're probably right. Rumour has it that they were the result of a bet between two producers to see who could get the worst song into the charts. It seems one of them did a pretty good job.
If that is true, the poll is half redundant. Even then, it's quite possible that the performers were so ditzy that they didn't realise what the puppeteers were up to, and just how bad the song was.

And the thread also seems to function nicely as a trolling tool. Nice.

No really. Even in 1998 this stood out. I think I've probably heard the song a grand total of about four times, and three of those times was showing other people it just to ruin their day.
I'm unsure about it. I think the girls obviously knew they weren't singing Bowie, but I don't think it was a piss take either. I think a studio thought a song that had a famous tune might sell, and they press ganged four starry eyed girls with dreams of Carnagie Hall into singing it for them. They're probably playing their local Town Hall now. Just a giant miscalculation by a record label that did no good for anyone involved. Like when they got Robbie Williams rapping.

Saw this on Buzzcocks the other day, it's a horrible song, I was shocked at it when it came on. How can someone release something this shit.

That is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Wouldn't surprise me if it's serious though

I hope it isn't serious, but it wouldn't surprise me if it actually was...
I mean... You can't base a song on the Muppets, and possibly intend for it to be serious can you though...?
