As Muse will more than likely be the headliner getting the 2hr set at Reading this year..they will be onstage from 9.30 - 11.30pm as Reading always ends at 11.30pm each night (obviously may come on later and finish later depending on how stage set-up etc.. goes) so the BBC footage will be 'as live'

Xav :
It will be aired on BBC 3 at 10:20 PM on the 28th.

Check here the TV schedule : http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/programmes/schedules/2011/08/28

Yes I've seen that but there is nothing to say it's the whole gig. BBC usually do show it entire sets though, so fingers crossed............

BBC didn't show the entire Glasto 2004 set, nor the entire Reading 2006 set.

But they showed all of Glasto 2010 didn't they? I hope it's not just speculation!!!!

They rarely show the full gig live, often cutting back to the presenters for a few minutes before playing more. They'll probably just cut it and play all the singles that get played

Frequently Asked Questions about our coverage
What performances will be available?
The majority of performances on the Main stage, Radio 1/NME stage and BBC Introducing stage will be recorded by the BBC. We will endeavour to air each of these performances live or show extended highlights on BBC Three, Radio 1, Red Button and here online.

Why don't we show all artists and songs?
When the BBC decides to cover a music festival, it needs to work within a tight budget to provide the best value for money for Licence Fee payers. This means we cannot always afford to record all performances from every stage. At Reading festival we are recording the Main stage, Radio 1 stage and BBC Introducing stage. These stages offer the main headline acts from the festival and interesting newer artists.

On occasion an act may not wish to be filmed or recorded. Artists may also agree to be recorded but only allow a limited number of songs to be aired. This could be for a number of reasons for instance: the quality of some parts of the performance, because they do not wish to broadcast new or unreleased material, or they do not want to broadcast their entire live set.

The material an artist plays may not agree with the BBC Taste & Decency guidelines, such as containing excessive swearing. In these instances there is no way for the BBC to air that material.

The BBC is committed to making sure the sound and visual quality of a performance is high. In live open air arenas, the quality of recordings and performances can vary greatly due to environmental and technical factors. The BBC may decide that the recording of particular songs are not of a high enough quality to air, although we endeavour to provide at least a sample of a band's show if we feel they are central to the festival.

Another reason why certain songs are not available on the BBC is due to there being a limited number of broadcast slots to air material. Around 40 hours of performances will be recorded at Reading festival, but TV and Radio slots will amount to much less. This means TV and Radio producers select the performances that reflect the festival best and appeal to the different audiences for networks and channels. Much more material is featured on Red Button and online but even then the practical limitations of editing such a large amount of material quickly can prevent performances from being available.

Didn't they show the whole Glasto 04? I know there's a recording of every song. Or maybe they just didn't broadcast it on that day.

Also I hope there will be a way to watch it outside the UK. I never get to see these things.

The whole of the Glasto 2004 set was pretty much shown live & 'as live' and the whole of Reading 2006 was shown live/recorded (bar stockholm syndrome, the whole of the main set was on BBC 3 live, TIRO was on bbc 2 and Take A Bow on the red button), Whole of Glasto 2010 was shown 'as live' from start to finish

I HAVE a good feeling that the whole set will be shown in full as they showed the whole of the Foo Fighters epic 2hr 15-30min headline set at TITP last month on BBC 3 'as live' from start to finish, with Reggie backstage to interview the band just before they went onstage which was shown just before they went on along with short introduction piece about the history of the band.

Also they have 2 Many DJ's/The Streets on at the same time as Muse at Reading on the R1/NME Stage & so I can't see much of their sets (esp 2 Many DJ's) being shown at all...also only the main stage and R1/NME Stage are filmed at Reading

It will be worth the whole of the ticket fee and limitless mud and rain if Chris screams
"JUST TO SPIT IT IN YOUR FAAACEEEE!"

Being there will be life affirming, seeing it endlessly on telly for years afterwards is the icing on the cake.
