I think Barca are a lot less guilty than most. They get the majority of their money from fan input, because their fans are the owners. Also, a lot of their team is home-grown.

Well, I was more moaning about the fact that certain clubs pretty much make their teams using ridiculous amounts of money, simply because they can. Buying a few players for reasonable prices is fine. Buying a squad's worth of players is not. Man United buying Ronaldo was perfectly acceptable, because he was pretty young, and Fergie developed him into a quality player. Real Madrid and Man City paying hundreds of millions in order to build pretty much an entire team, though, isn't acceptable. That's what I was trying to get at.
As I've said countless times in this thread, teams like Barcelona and Man United (especially the former, as most of their team have been at the club since they were wee children) can get away with it, because they're reasonable with their buys. Even this season, United bought Hernandez, and look what he's achieved! How much did he cost.. £8m? Then look at transfers like Torres to Chelsea. I suppose you could argue that Barca paid very high prices for Villa and Ibrahimovic (well, a high price regarding the latter... the former was worth £34m, let's be honest), but that can be passed off as squad enhancement. They have a firm basis for a squad in their club-grown players.
Less money in football generally would be good, but I think the outrageous behaviour by certain clubs (which has gone over a line most clubs have settled with) is really worth complaining about. Real Madrid pretty much bought themselves a trophy. We may as well say the same for Man City, as I can't see Stoke beating them in the FA Cup Final. Sickens me.

People keep pushing it though, you could argue that some clubs pay too much for people in the same way that you could argue that United spent too much on Veron or Ferdinand, and Liverpool spent too much on Carroll. Okay, Man City have done it a number of times in a short period of time, but they'll calm down once their team has settled and it may turn out profitable. It has made the league more interesting this year having another top side in the mix.

United's buys didn't come from a huge burst of money though. As I said in my last post, Real and City essentially made their teams over the space of a year or two using their abundance of money. There was no squad development at all. Man City became ridiculously rich through their new ownership, and suddenly decided that they should throw shloads of money at making a new squad. It's like what Chelsea did when Abramovic took over. They essentially bought themselves the Premier League. Alright, United might have paid a lot for Ferdinand, but that was just a bit of building on what was already a well established squad. Carroll's price tag irritated me as well, but that was a lone signing.
Having so much money to buy so many overpriced players all at once just makes it too easy for clubs to win trophies now. Within a couple of years, QPR will probably be the same. Apparently they've got hundreds of millions to spend now.

I think it's good for the game, it makes it a lot more interesting, otherwise it would just be Arsenal winning the league every single fucking season.

Let Barcelona stay 3 or 4 seasons without winning anything and you'll see 3 or 4 Villas coming in a single season. You're just too naive. Putting boundries on what's acceptable here and there doesn't make sense - money rules football, simple as that. Also, Real Madrid is also buying it using their own money (I think).

Although they've still bothered to bring most of their squad through the youth ranks. And they still will do. (EDIT: that's with regards to Barcelona). Of course they'll buy players to try and bring them back up to a trophy-winning standard, but I guess that's the state of football in leagues where there are only really two competitors. I suppose you have a point in that sense, but Real Madrid are still far more worse.
And Matt, I'm sure if clubs didn't rely on the fall-back of having loads of money to spend on players, they'd put more effort into developing younger ones.

Well, I didn't bring up fair play at all. I didn't make a single point about Barcelona being fairer than Madrid in playing style. In all honesty, Madrid were the better team, even if they have become insanely boring to watch under Mourinho. I was just saying that spending ridiculous amounts on players finally seems to have paid off.
And as I said, Duarte had a good point with his last post. Barca have spent quite a bit, that's true, but they've built most of their squad through their youth (Valdes, Pique, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, Messi - all world class and first team players - plus Busquets, Pedro and Bojan). Perhaps they do take it too far with their transfers on occasion, but again, that's what you get when you're in a league like La Liga. If you look at Real Madrid by comparison, they're far worse, because as I said (I hate having to repeat all this!) they pretty much made their squad using money. Who was in their youth team? As far as I know, the only first-team regular who has been at the club all his life is Casillas.
Barcelona buy a couple of players a year for a bit of squad enhancement. And to be fair, Villa's price tag (which was £34m, not 40) was certainly justified. He's far and away the best striker in the world at the moment. For the same reason, I can understand why Man United occasionally splash out. They buy decent young players and develop them into world-class ones, so I don't see any harm in the occasional big buy. I just think there's something wrong when all of your transfers are big buys.

I just don't like Real Madrid because I do like Barcelona, and I like Barca because I can associate with them, they have fantastic fans, so being a Liverpool fan I kind of side with them, like with Celtic and a few Eastern European sides.

Yeah, I suppose... it shouldn't have been given but it doesn't mean we shouldn't take advantage. If we'd won today we could have afforded two draws in our last five games and we'd still be level with Rangers.
I said I'd take a draw before the game and we got it. It just feels like an opportunity missed though.

A brilliant GK, TWO CB's (TV will get injured at some point), a creative midfielder, and a top class striker.
He has the money, but I'd say if he doesn't get all of those things, he should at least try for the two CBs and GK.
