The guns aren't the problem. I never said they were. The problem is that any lunatic and their inbred cousin can get their hands on one in the US.
You can own guns in many countries with no problem. The difference you can't just walk into Wal-Mart and get them.

True. I wouldn't be opposed to having some procedures to go through to get a license. Even with that, stories like this will still occur often.
edit: Wal-Mart is their own separate thing. I've never liked the way walmart does things.

He passed the gun control rules because the US has none. Proper gun control does work. Look at Norway. They have more guns per household than the US. Since they have proper gun control they don't have lunatics shooting police officers or political figures.

Now that i go to school in wisconsin, im around a lot of people who own guns. They don't keep them with them, deerhunting is very big up in the north. Many more people own guns than where i live. Other than a few hunting accidents and a few drunk people with guns, there is not much violence. It's all in the cities Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit. ect

Of course not. But if America had any idea about actually controlling guns properly, it would be harder for this sort of thing to occur. You'll always get maniacs, and so all you can do is make it harder for them to acquire things that might hurt someone.
If you look at Britain, or Japan, or a handful of other countries, the gun control is so strict that they're basically illegal. Obviously, America and it's "right to bear arms" flag wavers wouldn't go for that, but even still there's countries like Norway (as someone mentioned) and Canada - countries that have exceptionally high gun ownership per centages but yet a fraction of the gun crime.

I have to say, in Chicago, Policemen deaths are treated with such fanfare and reverence that it's almost insulting to all the innocent people who die and get one little police report mention. It's like the cop's life meant a 1000 more.

Anyhoo, I'm really not surprised, people getting shot in Detroit is just how the world works, I'm not even sure if this is thread worthy, at least 50 people were murdered in Cape Town yesterday. And to be honest, there are probably more than 4 murders per day in Detroit anyway, so this is only making news because they were policemen, and they're not even dead yet, and they probably won't.
Gun crime debate: guns shouldn't be legal, end of story.
