I'm really sad to say this, but could this be the last Muse album?! Really dont want it to be true, but:
- Matt's been able to write his symphony, probably his magnus opus
-The resistance has a massive air of finality
- Teignmouth have finally accepted them!
Fingers crossed it wont be, but still a worry!
Get the fuck outta my muse.
And I think you mean:
Matt's turned into a bit of a douche.
The resistance has an air of popularity about it
An younger audience has accepted them.
Hopefully the next album will be a return to form.
Id happily punch you all in the face

Quote We Want The Cup :
I think any band is naturally going to have albums that the fans of their original work do not dig as much. For people to think that means the band is nearing THE END is crazy. Will they ever write material like in OOS, Showbiz, Absolution again? Maybe here and there, but that's not their job. Their job is to wriote the music they want to write. And hopefully like RUSH, they keep the fans happy down the road by playing plenty of shows that have old material, to mix with the new.
Personally I love The Resistance. But it is way different than their older stuff.
As for live performances, I never did SEE a show before 2006, but I have 60+ gigs of proshot footage, and yes there was more energy and intensity. At the same time they wer eout of tune almost every 5 songs, and made so many mistakes... which isn't bad, most bands do that, especially when they improvise as much as Muse does. But the shows now, they are more rehearsed, which while you may think it is a bad thing, they play songs, riffs, improvs almost flawlessly each night. It is remarkable. Everyone I have brought to a Muse concert (about 20 friends over the last few years, who were all on the fence about getting into Muse) went home saying the show was incredible and they couldn't believe how good of musicians the three guys were.
Old Muse cannot be compared to current Muse, because it is three men who have different goals than they did in their early 20's. And YES, that probably includes getting filthy rich so they can live in mansions in LA and Lake Como!!! But mostly their goal seems to be to perform as professionally as they can. And yes, they DO still rock out on stage. Matt is all over the place most nights. Just because he has 10+ years of practice for his moves which makes it look effortless, it doesn't take away all the years of practice it took to make it look that effortless. His moves are just as awesome as his playing.
I agree 100%!
Also I'm very happy to see another Rush fan! :'D

I would go as far to say they are much better now then ever, especially the stadium gigs. They manage to play songs like FG, GL and NSC which we know arent that great on the albums, but they are really fun live

+1
i don't like The Resistance as much as i love old Muse. i don't love it at all i would say..But i'm sure they have a big potential to write somethin' incredible in future, cause they're too talented to finish their activity in this way. Everyone has the right to make mistakes

You just put out my exact thoughts. Even if the new music isn't as good as the old music, I think Muse's future is in the live shows. And I don't see them ending that any time soon.

I'd say most of the people on here started listening around Abso/BHaR. As for myself, I got into them mid-BHaR era, around 2007 I guess.

As a band musically interesting? Yes
As a rock for clever people? Yes
As a leading band for bunch of teenagers while setting the bar pretty low? Far from it
