Couldn't find a thread or anything decent about this in here... but apparently just the other day.. it happened.
Apple are now officially the worlds largest tech company knocking Microsoft off the top spot.
This really did deserve its own discussion.
You got some nerve, coming here.

It's also worth mentioning that:
However, Microsoft still enjoys higher profits than Apple. Its most recent annual net profit was $14.6bn (£10bn), compared with $5.7bn for Apple.
Microsoft also reported bigger full-year revenues of $58.4bn, with Apple on $36.5bn.

Happened a few weeks ago. Microsoft deserved to be knocked off the top spot. They've completely lost the plot in the last few years, and still haven't recovered.

Probably because people have to keep buying shit for their Microsoft products when they inherent fail or catch a virus.

Or because Microsoft products aren't ridiculously overpriced.

What do you mean? How does that make Microsoft more money?
It makes them money because more people can afford the cheaper product so they sell more stuff than Apple.

It always bugs me, when people talk about Microsoft being a boring company with little innovation. That's what Microsoft is, it serves the everyday man who simply needs a computer he can use to work with on a day to day basis, the software is designed to do many things to a decent standard. Mac's on the other hand, have their roots in making products for creative practices, which is why all the hardware looks so damn sexy, back in the late 90's the only people buying Mac's were magazine editors and the like.
What swayed things in Apple's favour was the iPod. Since that masterstroke, Microsoft have always been fighting a losing battle because the market has changed so drastically from being about making a long term investment in a home pc which gives value for money and lots of options, to having something that makes a statement and pampers the consumer's ego. Apple caters to simpletons who want to be able to add photos to their facebook page in record time or whatever, menial tasks which are now an essential part of people's lives. Microsoft has to lose it's reputation as a grey company, Excel and all, and get sexy!

I prefer Microsoft computers any day of the week. Macs annoy me. However, I do love the iPod.

Hopefully it won't be long until companies start complaining about safary being installed on every mac just like they did with ie.
I wish apple every success, but they act like such wankers sometimes. Once they get put in there place by a company/s they will benefit hugely.

I love the iPod - mine has served me well for almost 2 years, not a single thing wrong with it. I'll have to upgrade soon though, I've almost filled it
And I love the iPhone, for the reasons I've stated...everywhere.
But every other Apple product... I don't see the point. Everything else seems gimmicky and just... impractical. Like that laptop they do, with no disc drive? The fuck?
Yeah, so... iPod+iPhone = win. Everything else = failure.

You pay more for Apple, because it is generally better, build, longevity, function and design and in the long run, I have found that I actually save money.
Apart from my ipod... (itself nearly 6 years old - and working fine after drops, bashes, a swim in my bath) ..
..I have owned only two Mac products in the last 8 years, a G4 silver, which I bought when it came out, and up until only a few months ago it still performed incredibly for it's age, never once had a problem with it, mechanically or performance wise... it just kept on going and churning out my work at a very respectable speed and was able to run most of the latest software and OS systems without upgrading.
I got rid of it because my mum's Microsoft PC died continuously at her office so she now uses my old machine and she loves it... yes it's still going! I doubt very much a Windows machine, certainly one I owned before switching to mac could ever achieve that.
I now own the new Mac Mini... (that's it mind you, I have a non apple 22" HD display and Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse) and I love it... it's so damn fast and it burns through my editing at breakneck speed... I imagine I will still be this pleased with it in another 7 years time maybe more if I really want to go for a record... in which time, I imagine most of you will have bought or upgraded your new Microsoft machines once if not twice if anything, just so you can keep using the new OS and software, I base that on the constant updates my many Windows using friends give me.

There's such a learning curve with Apple products, I feel. It's still taking me a while to learn how to copy and paste on iOS. Whenever I use Mac OS, I just get confused.
Whereas with Microsoft, like people have said, it's just ridiculously easy. Everyone knows what "right click, paste" means. Even the best OS in the world (Ubuntu) uses the same gestures as Windows.
I have to admit, my love for Apple is growing, so I'll say this now before I choke on hypocrisy. Apple may make good products, but they are marketed as fashion items. Not only that, but half their product rage are for mindless, more-money-than-sense individuals who would buy anything. I mean, the Macbook Air, the iPad, and to some extent, the Mac Mini are such novelty items, and so expensive. They're not that great at making great products (with the exception of iOS and iPhone 4), they're just very good at advertising, which is upsetting because Microsoft's dominance was built on the fact it was just easy to use.
And by the way, if you get a virus on a PC, you're should stay off the Internet. In my years of using Windows, I've had one case of malware, and that was because I was pissed at the time. Mac users can't keep using the virus argument, because it's the users not the software's fault.

The Mac Mini is not a novelty item... it's performance is awesome and it saves so much room... the fact that something is small does not make it novelty! it means that technology has moved on. Also it is relatively cheap considering the software and hardware bundles you get.
I can't believe you find holding the ctrl button down difficult though.
With regards to the virus thing, you said your one incident was when you were pissed... with a Mac even that one wouldn't have happened.

I'm not a Mac user yet. But I think the virus argument is very valid. Sure I could use my PC better to make sure it wouldn't be filled with crap like spyware and viruses (which is killing it atm!). But I'd prefer to not even have to worry about it.
I agree that they've put a lot of crap out there. Especially the Macbook Air seems ridiculous to me. But I'll gladly use their good products. I'm an iPhone user and I will most likely get a Macbook Pro within a year..

I have never had a single anti virus program installed on my macs.
Edit: the mac-air was simply a design statement.. nothing more nothing less. The fact they could create something that powerful and light in that casing was worth the praise if anything. But for the price tag, you could buy a far more powerful mac for less.

Funny, I hate iPods, iPads and iPhones, and yet I love the Macbooks and iMacs. In four years we went through 2 PC's. And it wasn't just software problems, the hardware just failed, randomly. So we gave up and got an iMac. It has lasted four years and is still running perfectly.
My old laptop, while still running, holds nothing on my Macbook.
Macbooks aren't that much different from regular laptops. Most commands such as copy and paste are exactly the same and available as a right click function, or, like on Windows, Ctrl-C is copy, on OSX Cmd-C is copy. It's all the same really.
Also, functionality on OSX is a lot better and smoother I find. I'm by no means an Apple fanboy and my next computer will most likely be a Windows laptop, but that's because I want to give W7 a try and that a lot of the software I use is not Mac compatible.
