Just one question : Is the double-necked guitar really useful ?
I mean, Jimmy Page uses one because he needs to change his guitar's sound in the same song but here, Matt just makes some little sounds in the beginning of Uprising.. :-/
Well, I daresay he'll find ways to incorporate the fretless neck into future songs, as well as using it to play existing songs.
I'm sure with a few effects and stuff you could do some insane stuff on a guitar with no frets, and he probably knows this
None of both necks is fretless..
The top neck IS fretless.
Yeah, it is!

MY stance on cameras at gigs... if you are in seats and can hold the camera in a spot where it doesn't interfere with anyone's view (that's what I do) then there's nothing wrong with it. But if you are in GA, and holding it over your head, it is extremely lame because you block the view of people behind you. And, isn't the point of getting to GA so you can jump around more?

^ I agree. Last year I was at a gig where there was only 1 person in front of me and she spent the entire gig looking at her camera. I understand that it's really nice to have a good video afterwards but what's the point of going to a concert if you're not even going to look at the stage?
I usually only take a few pictures during a song I don't really like.

^My first Muse gig in November, recorded loads, took loads of pictures, ruined the gig really, didn't pay enough attention.
Now, I'll take my camera to Manchester in September but unless I'm on the barrier I'm not gonna take any images and I'm not even gonna take my video camera.

My camera ran out of battery 6 songs in when I saw them in March in so it prevented me from spending the whole time taking pictures or videotaping. It kind of allowed me to enjoy the concert better though.

I sure hope someone rips that broadcast/clips of show. That'd be major win.

What does he use the double neck for? Any videos of him using it?
|
|
|
Doesn't he use the fretless neck for the synth part of Uprsing, and the normal neck for the rest?

I was lucky enough to win tickets, and took a friend I met on the official muse boards after we swapped tickets last year on the resistance tour.
We joined up with another pair and drove to Paris - was an amazingly fun drive there - 4 muser fangirls talking/singing muse the whole way there lol... the gig was phenomenal for several reasons; people complaining are just demonstrating the fact they weren't there!
1. the atmosphere was the best I've ever experienced - I am totally a fan of the French crowd at gigs! They are a really friendly bunch but absolutely wild too.
2. The set list - yes really. We got 2 firsts. Neutron Star Collision and I Belong To You. I was dying to hear IBTY live and it's absolutely thrilling to say I was one of the first to ever hear it live! Neutron Star Collision is about a million times more epic live than recorded too - has to be heard/experienced to be believed I suspect.
3. First outing of the double neck guitar - the thing was insane! The mirrors were so highly polished he was beaming light around the venue like a spotlight!
4. MORGAN MORGAN MORGAN! Nuff said.
5. The venue - the place was beautiful but more importantly it was tiny and so no matter where you stood, you were pretty damn close; I was in the middle of the standing crowd towards the left of the stage and saw everything pretty clearly. I was wearing MBT's though (which have like 3 inch thick soles lol) so that helped to see over the tall people's heads) so I was kinda cheating! lol
6. IT WAS FREE! Seriously, I have never won anything in my life so no one was more shocked than me to see I had scooped a pair of tickets; but for that reason alone I think people shouldn't be bitching about it. Sure, you have to pay your travel costs but they DID put on an amazing show and it was worth the sweltering heat and almost passing out on the way back to the hotel from dehydration and heat stroke to be a part of this highly exclusive gig.
7. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! Special one off gig t-shirts are win! This one will be proudly worn alongside my Royal Albert Hall t-shirt!
You've summed it up, anyone who complains about the gig must be out of their mind. Yes, it was sweltering, yes it was a treck, but that's what you do and none of that matters when you have the opportunity to see the best band in the world, obviously having the time of their lives, in the most tiny venue.... I was so very lucky to win tickets, I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

It has happened before - the encore at Sheffield Arena 2006 was Citizen Erased and Bliss - perfect! Citizen Erased is a really great encore opener.
As for camera use at gigs - I have no problem with people taking videos and pictures because its good to see the results on youtube / flickr - it documents the gig so it can be remembered forever. But I do wish that some people would be a bit more considerate when filming. I always make sure my camera is never held above my head, and make sure that both my arms are tucked in. This way I'm not blocking anybody's view more than my body already does.

There's something I still don't get : Why are frets drawn on the fretless neck ???
It's weird the way Matt uses it, if someone can explain ? Coz the sound it produces seems quite useless..

^It's a slide neck on the top neck, which creates the synthy sounds, but since theres no fretss it can be hard for him to place the exact positions of the notes, which calls for the drawn frets.

Did Bliss have the falsetto? I can't find any good vids on Youtube yet, I'd love to hear it. Now I REALLY can't wait to see them in October, if the setlists continue to be like this.
Glorious indeed !
