(dunno if this is a duplicate, i searched, but nothing came by)

So, what is your opinion on the drums in The Resistance?

I'll give a small opinion on every song :

Uprising: Quite simple, but it works extremely well. A small usage of hi-hats somewhere in the song would be nice.

Resistance: Quite "tribal" may i say . I like those toms in the verse, that have a different esthetic, almost sound like lightnings. The pre-chorus rhythm is very "Motp" like, know what i mean? The chorus and outro rhythms are just basic, "Old Dom's" crash/ride rhythms that opens up the song very well

Undisclosed Desires: Fantastic drum machine work by our favorite drummer. It gives a great touch to the synth based song. The complicated hi-hats rhythm in the verse and last chorus just perfectly.

United States of Eurasia: The drum work in this song is fine, but nothing special, like Sunburn's or Hysteria drum work. To me, what really stands out in this songs are the drum breaks.

Guiding Light: VERY powerful toms here, those "POW POW... POW POW POW TA!" are SO simple, but awesome, which proves that the most simple rhythms can be very good. I like the usage of the tambourine with the delay, and the hi-hat rhythm is a delight to play

Unnatural Selection: Nice usage of toms, although hi-hats would nicer to use. The chorus part is fantastic, with all those breaks and crashes flying everywhere (know what i mean? ). The breakdown rhythm is somewhat simple, has a small swing influence, but it gets very intense by the end of the breakdown.

Mk Ultra: Once again, use and abuse of the toms, hi-hats would be better. It gets a bit dull if you think about it. Nothing more to say.

I Belong to You: Absolutely PERFECT drum work, the best in The Resistance, by far. It blends very well in the song, the choices aren't all that obvious. The whole song has loads of little things that go perfectly and make an awesome song

Exogenesis Symphony: The drum work on the whole symphony is very alike, that's why i'm not going to talk about the 3 parts separately. I think it's a lot like USoE, nice rhythms, not too pretentious, blends well, but nothing special really

On another note, along with Assassin an Twin, Popcorn has one the most intense drum works that Dom has ever done, i congratulate him for that!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, feel free to discuss, rant, give your opinions, or everything else about the drum work on the Resistance!

Uprising is a nice fun drum beat to play.
Resistance is one of the best on the album.
Undisclosed does nothing for me.
USoE is just fantastic.
Guiding Light was poorly recorded and kinda hurts.
US is better but feels a bit too raw.
MK Ultra was recorded poorly. The change from US to MK shows how weak the drum sound is.
IBtY is much better.

Exo1 is terrible because its a drum machine.
Exo2 is better but still simple.
Exo3 is amazing.

Resistance is the best drum song ever.
So many different sections, and they're all mind-blowingly good.

I think as a whole, Dom's drum work on this album is the best he's done. Resistance is the standout track for me. Just awesome to listen to.

The first thing I noticed when listening to The Resistance for the first time were the drums. I think they're bloody brilliant. Very versatile and really good. and seen as I usually pay most attention to the guitars, that says something. I really thought they'd tried to bring Dom forward a little bit more than on previous albums.

One riff can make all the difference ~ Dom

^Agreed. I actually like that Dom doesn't live and die by his hi-hat usage. It makes his drumming more unique.

well, i'm not a drummer, but i can play the drums, and my opinion on the album is good, he tried hard to make it a bit complex, but fun at the same time

Uprising-good beats, i expected more, but after seeing the song live, now i can understand it
Resistance-great job, every part is well developed, and every beat has a strong purpose there
Undisclosed Desires-sounds ok, fits the song, but we could´ve got something more
USoE-great job, perfect for the song, i like playing the arabian part
Guiding Light-the song is not that great, the drums are just like the song
US-i like the drums, the chorus is really good, but nothing more than that
MK Ultra-my favourite of the album, i like the drumming, but yes, the verses are not that great
IBTY-great, gives a nice feeling to the song, and i have a lot of fun playing it
Exogenesis-improves during the tracks, Redemption is awesome, the others are just ok

It's not a complex, it's that if the hi hats were used in US and MK, it would give a different feel to the song, that i would prefer. I think Starlight and Uprising go very well with tom based rhythms, actually

I can understand Sunburn, but Hysteria? Hysteria may not be particularly complicated, but it is one of their most entertaining songs to play, imo.

I have the same snare sound on my keyboard.

I'm skeptical about it being a drum machine, it isn't hard to proccess drums to sound electronic.

I said Hysteria's drum work is very good not because it's complicated, it's because it fits perfectly with the song

Overture has my favourite drumwork on the album. Those massive delayed snare hits (real, or electronic) are fucking MASSIVE, and really, really haunting. And those fills toward the end? Wow.

MK Ultra's verses sound amazing.

The fills arn't that amazing either..
