here's a theory someone posted on my facebook wall... seems like it makes a ton of sense, but who knows if it's actually the real deal:
So the overriding theory that I had heard from alot of people (but initially zack) and that I really like is that the fake locke (and by extention the guy in the black who hates jacob in the opening flashback) is the black smoke. The theory is that he and jacob have been fighting for centuries based around how the island should be protected and utilized and everyone else is a pawn in their game. You may have noticed that at various points in the show they have played backgammon which is a base repesentation of light v. dark, good v. evil. This theory works when you look back on the season. When fake locke takes Ben to get judged fake locke goes away just as the smoke comes to tell Ben what he needs to do and comes back immediatly afterwards. In addition he essentially sets up Ben as his pawn exploiting the loophole and we already know that the Black smoke can take on the form of other people (and access their memories). Hope this helps.

Guy in black is the guy we see in the beginning of the last episode of season 5 with Jacob on the beach. He's, probably, the guy that planned all this to kill Jacob. The idea is, this guy in black is the smoke monster. That means, he can take various forms. He can also take the form of dead people in the island - Locke died outside, but once arrived in the island, smoke monster/guy in black could take his form. Using this, he planned something to destroy Jacob.
This is one of the theories you see on the internet, floating around some boards - made up by fans of the show. In the end, we are still in the dark on this whole thing.

The statue is one of the most awesome parts of Lost! The really WTF thng is what happened to it to leave just the four-toed foot?

Ive been trawling the spoiler sites again and im happy to say The Numbers are back! I was really disappointed when the producers (Darlton) said that the ARG explained them and we wouldnt be seeing them again but they were lying

In my opinion; all of the hallucinations were. The man in black plays games with human lives, but can only take the lives of those who have really sinned. He is bound by the laws of Jacob and now that Jacob is dead, he has free reign over his actions.
