Reservoir Dogs isn't supposed to be emotional. It's a film made up entirely of banter. You're not supposed to know who these people are, or feel some emotional likeness to them. The characters themselves aren't even supposed to know anything about each other. It's just a small snapshot of a much bigger picture. Like I love how you never see what Mr Blonde does when he goes nuts, and you don't know the characters backgrounds (apart from Blonde and Orange, and you find out a little about White, but only that he knows Joe). And you never find out if Pink gets away with the diamonds or if he's arrested etc. It just leaves you to wonder.
Trust me I know what I am talking about, the first rule of writing a script is that you as an audience have to have emotional response to the main characters.
And of course you do, you want them to succeed, you feel bad when brown dies, you want pink to escape with the loot. If you didn't care, what would be the point in watching it.
What I meant was, Pulp Fiction is more in depth and the character build is more substantial, it plays with a broader range of emotion and crosses characters paths constantly, something that Dogs only brushed the tip on.
Don't get me wrong Dogs is a great film, but It was a mere warm up for Tarantino before getting his teeth sunk into Pulp.
Besides the end of Dogs is flawed.. its the time old question "who shot Nice Guy Eddie".
They even made T-shirts with the question on.
White does. The squib didn't go off, Tarantino noticed it and left it in the film to spark conversation.
You can feel for a character, you can want them to succeed but raw emotion isn't vital for every film to be the best it can be. Look at Planet Terror. Likeable, funny characters, all with a back story (which you don't see much of, with the ol' "missing reel" and all), but you don't really feel any kind of emotional attachment to them.
Not all films require an emotional response. Although if you don't feel a twinge at the end of Reservoir Dogs there's summat wrong with you.
I didn't really get that from Pulp Fiction, it's just Tarantino grandeur. It was too over the top and bright and colourful for something that could have done with a little more subtlety. More like the famous Christopher Walken watch speech, and the bit in the car at the start. I like the quiet banter.

It wasn't to 'Spark conversation' he ran out of time and decided a re-shoot was a bad idea.
Of course emotion is vital for EVERY film. I know, its the industry I work in, likable , funny (laughter), empathy, these are all raw emotions and every film HAS to have them (raw emotional links that is).
Pulp Fiction played to a large number of emotions, and Dogs was even less subtle than Pulp so...
You got some nerve, coming here.
I hate to agree with Barnaby, but the fact is, hes right.

I completely disagree, I thought Reservoir Dogs was incredibly subtle.
I started to study film/media, then I had an argument with one of my tutors about The Bill. She said crime series, I said soap, I walked out and never went back to her class, henceforth failing that module and scuppering the possibility of continuing to do an HNC. Oh, well.
Just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. One of the best comedies ever, and Val Kilmer's best performance since The Doors.

Well I did continue with my studies.
After University, gaining a BA degree in Film History and Film Practical, I went on to achieve 3 Diplomas in Script Writing and Screenplays, Directing and Lighting, Editing and Sound at the London academy of film and Raindance film Institution.
I then attended International film school in Prague, gaining a postgraduate diploma in Script writing and Directing.
At the same time I wrote and optioned my first short script, and was cleared to direct it.
It was screened at Cannes Film Festival last year.
On a side note, Kiss Kiss bang bang, is a great film.
And The Bill is a soap.
You got some nerve, coming here.

THANK YOU. Now go tell her that. Maybe I'll get an HNC out of it.
I could have gone far with that course, I always have ideas for stories and pretty pictures in my head but I have no idea what to do with them. It's horribly frustrating.

Friday the 13th ('09)
Awesome slasher flick. Best Friday movie since part IV. Maybe even better than the original. While seeming a little rushed at times, it was back to basics shit. Teens piss off Jason, Jason hacks up teens, teens do some shit in the big finale and ta-da! Entertainment. But the best part is - gore was, very minimal. I mean, there's blood, but only where there needs to be blood. I've said it for years, slasher movies only need blood when there would be blood!!! And this did that, and I was happy to see it that way.

Mrs Voorhees was the original killer though. That's why the original was so good, because you expected it to be him. And that's why most of the sequels were rubbish. Don't really fancy the new one.
Although... Freddy vs. Jason is one of my guilty pleasures. I could watch Kelly Rowland die any day.

Of course it was. But the Friday the 13th name has now just become a synonym of 'Jason'. You can't have a Friday movie without him anymore, remake or not. Mrs. Voorhees is made reference to, and she's in the first scene, but after that, it has to be all about Jason. And Friday parts II and IV were the only good sequels, yes, but I think, in quality, both of those surpassed the original, anyway.

The Oh In Ohio.
Who thought a male would enjoy a film about a woman being unable to orgasm? Well, this guy could, because Paul Rudd is awesome.

Few hours ago: Creep
Entertaining horror flick. Not much else to say, though. Nothing breathtaking.
Just now: In The Company of Men
Real expression of how men are such bastards! I loved it. Aaron Eckhart was superb, and just like with The Shape of Things (same director, I believe?) a relatively small cast, a good script and decent acting goes a long way. Don't need nothing fancy to make good films!!
