The gap between the world's rich and poor has never been wider. Malnutrition, AIDS, conflict and illiteracy are a daily reality for millions. But it isn't chance or bad luck that keeps people trapped in bitter, unrelenting poverty. It's man-made factors like a glaringly unjust global trade system, a debt burden so great that it suffocates any chance of recovery and insufficient and ineffective aid.
On the 2nd July 2005, 8 of the most powerful people in world meet. Part of their agenda, Poverty. These 8 men can change the lives of millions of people by droping that debt. On that day, people from all over world will come to Edinburgh. Wearing white, they will form a human chain right round Edinburgh's inner city. There's also a fesitval in the afternoon, with campaign and fair trade stalls, activities for children, food and drink, live music, speakers and surprise big name guests.
