Hurrah, it's the end of the world!
A year ago, just when epic-rockers Muse seemed on the verge of greatness, they suddenly fell silent, but now they're back with an apocalyptic new album. David Cheal meets them in Paris
The time: August Bank Holiday weekend, 2002. The place: the Reading Festival, that three-day orgy of guitar-thrashing, head-waggling, jumping-up-and-down rock music. It's dark, it's raining, there's a whiff of autumn in the air, bonfires built from all manner of festival detritus are blazing, and on stage are Muse, a three-piece group from Teignmouth in Devon, who are fast becoming one of Britain's most exciting young bands.
